My Decor Crazy Is Showing !!!!!!

Ok this is scary to admit on my blog but I am going to let some of my crazy show in this post.

As most of you that have followed me know I have gone through a few change ups in my living room this past month including the TV armoire.

I just could not seem to fall in love with that piece no matter what I did to it.

As much as I loved the new doors and vintage knobs it still was not right!! So one night while I was just staring at the piece LOL! It finally dawned on me what I did not like about it.  It was just to massive and tall for the space.  So it was not going to matter what doors I put on it or what color I painted I was not going to like it.

So............
Let me first say this is the main culprit.  Terry's large screen 60 inch TV.  How to hide this big hunk of TV is the issue.

So I asked Terry how hard would it be to cut down this armoire  and make it smaller so the TV would still fit but it would not feel so massive a piece of furniture in this small space?

I was waiting for him to tell me to go jump in the lake if you think I am going to remake that armoire.  We live in a Lake town so there is a big lake he could have told me to go jump into!

Nope this wonderful man said he probably could do it.  So it began.

He used all the pieces he already had in the other piece and got to work cutting it down.  He still could use the porch posts which I was excited about.

I had these chippy shutters hanging in my guest room and thought hmmmmmm these might make for some great shutter doors for the new piece.

So my next dilemma was do I use the brown chippy side or the white chippy side.  You can see the brown on the left and the white on the right.  You will see in the end which side won out!

This is the new cabinet cut down and the first coat of paint.  Yep we could use all the pieces we had and Terry just cut and re loved them into this smaller size cabinet.  As I have said many times gotta love a man that has the right tools and knows how to use them.  I am so blessed this man puts up with all my decor crazy and helps my visions come to life.
So here is the new cabinet taken down in size and the old chippy shutters made into doors for the new armoire.

I had Terry put wheels on these two old dresser drawers for storage underneath.  I will put throws and magazines in the drawers.

Now this large screen TV has a home and I do not feel the piece is so heavy in the room.  The shutters are lighter weight.  The doors on the other armoire were so heavy to open into the room where the shutters fold on each other.

I moved a few things around on the walls.  Moved my old chippy door over to the chair corner wall.

Moved this old window over the armoire.

Where the door was on this wall I switched out my mirror to reflect the chandelier.

So there you have it  hopefully the final post on the TV Armoire!!!!! You know I love change so I will not say I will never change this armoire up again.  For now I am loving it and I finally feel like I have my vision for this piece done.

So now I think I can tuck my crazy away for now LOL!

Hope you are having a great start to the new week.  Enjoy.  Thanks for your visits and sweet comments always.
Kris

  1. I get it! When something just doesn't feel right you have to change it. You have a sweet husband to do all that carpentry!! What did you do with the doors you've worked so hard on? The new look does fit the room better. Glad you are happier.

  3. You know Chris when you look at the initial picture, you are totally right, it does look too big for the room. I think looking at photos of your room can sometimes bring these sorts of things to your attention. I need to do this. The great thing is you have a very handy and very patient husband. The new cabinet looks great. Can he build me one to hide our massive tv screen please?? x J

  10. If that is crazy then I have it as well. A piece has to 'feel' right in order to make me happy. Like you I have a sweet man who can really use his tools and puts up with my kinds crazy. Inhale designed, he has built and we have scrapped it... many times.
    a luv the new armoire!

  15. So gorgeous! Your idea to cut the armoire down was pure genius! I never would have thought of that in a million years. You bet I will now though. Your man is so sweet and quite handy. Nice work and beautiful decor!

  16. Terry did an amazing job on recreating the perfect tv storage piece. I would have been hesitant because the other piece was gorgeous too but I can understand how if it wasn't working for you it needed changed. Your room is dreamy and so much inspiration. Keep up with the decor crazy so we can all benefit from your lovely photos and ideas.

  18. This is so much better!!! I always thought the piece was too big for the room, it just was too dominant. And yes, what a man you have there, I'm so impressed!!!

  19. Kris,
Being crazy-design minded is fun, change is good ... In this case the armoire is now perfection! I always tell you that Terry is a saint of a hubby. Mine is extremely gifted but when he works on something he finishes and says "you happy? Good, stay that way"! John is Sicilian Italian, hey that lake you spoke about??? I'd be tossed in with a cement block! LOL, just kidding. I always enjoy seeing your revolving and evolving decor that graces your pretty house.

  20. I can understand your frustration. What a good idea to downsize the armoir. Love the shabby shutters! But I think the drawers underneath distract from its loveliness. I would use them somewhere else. Your husband loves you a lot!!!! xx

  21. I'm totally in love with your transformed cabinet, Kris! And I get it. When you're not happy with the way something looks, you have to just keep changing it until you get it right! The chippy shutters are perfect as doors. I love that they fold back so they're not in the way when you're watching tv. Enjoy!!

  24. You are so clever! I love how you changed that up. I liked it before too though. I know how it is though when you feel something isn't right in a room. I'm sure it felt different in person compared to how it looked in pictures. I would love to find a chippy shutter or two to use in my home. I love them!

  27. OMG, I don't know if I'm in more awe of the armoire or your husband!
    Both are amazing, Kris.
You know if I had nice, big shutters like yours, I'd be copying this, for sure!

  28. It's perfect Kris! Some things just take time! Usually after I post about whatever ... the photos show me something I need to change. It's amazing what we can't see right in front of us! Love the chippy shutters!

  29. Your post made me laugh :) But I don't think you are cazy at all, I think you are smart! Not to just live with a piece that was bugging you and then finding a way to make it work and work beautifully! And your husband is a doll for happily going along for the ride. :)

    1. Hi Roxie,
I have to tell you I am totally blessed with this man in my life. I am super lucky to have him. He is so good about making my "crazy" come to life in this house. I know your hubby is the same way. We are lucky girls to have these supportive and loving men in our lives. They totally are so good about living in our chippy, white cottage worlds with no complaints. Loved the kitchen Roxie it is looking so great. You will love the butcher block after you have lived with it for awhile. I love mine and it goes with any kind of decor change ups I do in the kitchen. The wood brings some warmth to the whites. Once you get your decor set up in there I know you will come to love it. It is easy to maintain too.

Good luck with your move. I know that is going to be hard with reno and moving in at the same time.

The cottage is really coming to life.

  39. Hi Kris, You made me laugh. This could have been totally me. Your hubby is a very talented carpenter and hey, he even didn't let you jump into the lake. You two are a great team. I liked the armoire with the new doors but it looks a lot lighter now and I love shutters. I also love the drawers underneath. I look forward to see what you two are going to make out of the leftover doors and wood :).
