You know the old saying "never give up hope".
This is the original mansion that was converted to condos. We lost out on the first condo last week. We continued to hope something else would come on the market before we had to close on our home. After lots of praying and watching the market everyday, we were wonderfully surprised to see another condo come on the market.
This sweet sister mansion converted to condos across the street had a condo come on the market. This building is just as charming as the other one.
This sweet sister mansion converted to condos across the street had a condo come on the market. This building is just as charming as the other one.
When we lost the first condo we were pretty disappointed. I kept hope alive that we would hopefully have another one pop up on the market to try again. These do not come up very often on the market. Plus this market is crazy with little inventory and several offers coming in on one property.
Just this week as I was starting to look for a short term rental. Preparing with nothing coming on the market for us. It seemed bleek we would find something before we closed on this house at the end of April. With the market so crazy you almost need 45 days for closings now with how busy it is.
Then another condo in the sister building come up for sale! Yay!
I loved the history of the mansions converted to these charming condos. No cookie cutter condos. Unique and charming they are.
I was beyond excited to see another condo come on the market. My sweet friend and realtor set up a showing for us the next day.
We went in and fell in love with this one too.
We immediately put in an offer and waited. We hoped to hear back by that evening on Friday but nothing. I did not sleep at all on Friday night. I began to feel hopeless that we probably were going to be outbid again. We went in with our highest and best bid.
Late on Saturday we finally heard back and they had accepted our offer!
This condo has great bones and lots of charm.
It needs some love as you will see in the pics I share from the listing. It needs paint, wallpaper removal, carpet removed and wood floors put in and some updating to the kitchen. Nothing huge in rehab.
Terry and I think we can make this place cute and comfy.
This is the entry into the first level. It is three floors. The one we are buying is on the third floor. It has a elevator in the building besides the staircase.
This is the entry into the condo. Not to worry this white and neutral girl will be working on this entry. New wood flooring and the burnt red walls and border will be going and replaced with light gray/white walls.
This is the bedroom. The gray looks dark in this photo but it is actually a light gray with white trim and plantation shutters on the dormer window. I will probably not change anything in this room. Just hang up my decor pieces.
The bathroom is very large and pretty. She just had this bathroom updated a year ago. Not much to do in this room except decor items and my cottage touch.
This kitchen needs some love. We will be taking down some of the shelving and cabinets and putting up open shelves and corbels. New appliances are needed and the old and outdated ones will be replaced. The cabinets that stay will be painted white and new hardware added.
Where she has the table I will be doing something very sweet and fun in this corner. The wood flooring for the living room and dining area will be laid in this kitchen too. I am thinking of maybe shiplap on the walls where the upper cabinets come down for open shelves. Still working that out in my mind lol!
Ok!!!! buckle your seat belts for this living and room dining room! Beautiful for her but not my style at all. These burnt red walls will be getting lots of primer!! Then Behr Pixel White paint which I had in my last house. It is white with a touch of gray.
This is where vision is needed with this side of the room!! That wallpaper with the large peacocks and dark red background will be taken down and primed and painted.
The carpet will be taken out and wood floors added. The windows are recessed and are new.
All the windows have been replaced in the last two years.
New window treatments for these windows.
These recessed windows are like bay windows and they will not be covered up. We live on the third floor and no one lives across or can see in. They will remain open with just a pretty window header treatment.
There are french doors that close off from the kitchen to this living room/dining room.
I will have more of my own pictures as soon as we close and I own this place and can get back in there.
If all goes well we will be in escrow at the end of April and will take a week after closing to work on this place before moving in our things.
Stay tuned for this next part of our journey as we move into Junk Chic Cottage #5.
I will show you all the before and afters as we get the work done.
New beginnings as Spring approaches and new beginnings for Terry and I into our new easy lifestyle condo.
I wish you guys all the best, and can't wait to see what you do to the place!!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new "Chateau". I like watching You Tube and all the Chateau lives of the many people leaving the UK and moving to France and buying Chateaus. Some Chateaus are in really rough shape when bought, but after a lot TLC they are Beautiful. You remind me of those people. I wonder what you would do with a Chateau...probably will be beyond beautiful like your new home will be. I will enjoy watching the tranfomation.
ReplyDeleteHooray, Kris...I am so glad you found a place! It looks lovely and yes, it does need some updating but no big deal for you two. You and Terry are the masters of re-do's! I know you are thankful that you don't have to rent before you found a place to buy.
ReplyDeleteOh, Kris. I am so happy for the two of you. What are you going to do with all that room? The rooms looks such good size. What a great find! As a Community Association Manager, I'm going to caution you to check with the Association to make sure you can put hard floors in a third floor unit- many have restrictions against that. I love the charm of these old mansion conversions! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWe are all good to have new floors put in. They allow any floors you would like. The charm is unbelievable. Have a great week. xoxo
DeleteKris, I'm playing catch up on my reading and can't believe all that is happening. I love the new place and I can absolutely see why you loved it. It will be perfect after you paint and decorate. I'm so happy for you.
