Our 19 month old grandson was a trooper through the family trip. He loved the subway and the buses. We got in over 15,000 steps per day walking to all the wonderful landmarks and sites. Figuring out the buses and subway was great to get to everything we wanted to see. When you have 9 of us it was the fastest and least expensive way to navigate this wonderful city.
I was worried about visiting New York City on a holiday that it would be too peopley" for me lol! It really was not. My blogger friend Kim (Exquisitely Unremarkable) that lives outside of New York City told me traditionally the city clears out on Memorial Day to head to the water. She was right it was not crowded. We were able to hit the 911 memorial, the Empire State Building, Statute of Liberty, Grand Central Station, Times Square and some fun things for the kids. The girls and I went to the Lipstick Lab to formulate a special unique lipstick just for each of us. We hit the Central Park, Bryant Park. M&M Factory Ice Cream Factory There was something for all of us on this family trip.
I was amazed at how much we could fit into three days.
Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Weekend. Hugs, Kris |
Hi, I am so happy for you and your family to be able to do this. It has a special meaning to go to a place to pray and give thanks to those. I am sure it was very emotional for you all.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this special trip with us.

First time commenting, long time admirer of your beautiful homes! Thank you for sharing the pictures of the memorial.
ReplyDeleteThe Big Apple is one of my favorite places to visit - looks like you had a great time The memorial is quite a somber place to visit but a must see! Glad you had the opportunity!

I'm a long time reader who seldom comments. I so appreciate that you shared this post about the 911 Memorial. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteOh my word Kris, what a trip! Your family sure packed in so much in three days. I’m sure it must’ve been so emotional to see so many things from 9-11. I sure learned so much from your visit that I never knew. Thank you for sharing with us. Your little grands are so cute, and I’m sure Charlotte was happy with her AG doll. Have a great rest of the week ❤️
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great family trip. Welcome to our neck of the woods!
ReplyDeleteKris, I decided to view some blogs. I am so glad I looked at yours first. Just today, I looked through my stack of NYC pictures. Ted and I visited the reflection pools, the museum wasn't finished when we were there. I know it had to touch Terry's heart to see all the trucks and know so many fire fighters died that day. We went to Grand Central station also. I loved how it was like going back into another age. You will want to return, you can't see it all in that short time. LOL. Hug your sweet man. Hold each other tight. Blessings, xoxo, love you, Susie
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool that you got to experience all that you did in NYC in just three days! I've never been there. Reading about 9-11 and seeing the photos gave me chills. I'm glad that Terry and your SIL got to see this in person.
ReplyDeleteOh my word! That must have been a truly remarkable experience, Kris and especially on Memorial Day too! Thank you so much for sharing all of the incredible photos so that we could all see it. So pleased that you had such a good time and the 'Lipstick Experience' sounds amazing. Gilly (UK)
ReplyDeleteAll the times I see people post the memorial to 911, I have never seen what you have posted here, the fire trucks, the wall etc. Thank you. I can still recall receiving the call from my sister saying America has been attacked. We are in Australia. Seems like yesterday. Glad you had a great time on your family getaway.
ReplyDeleteKris, so glad you and your family got to go to NYC. How priceless to see the 911 Memorial. Such a tragic time and so many lives lost. They have really honored the fallen with a special tribute to each and every life. So glad you got to visit and see so many places. The lipstick experience sounds fabulous. Thanks for sharing this very special post. Hugs.🤗
ReplyDeleteWe were there a couple of years after 911. I’d like to go back and see the memorial. Sounds like y’all had a great time!

Thank you for sharing this experience as I’ve never been. I can’t imagine how emotional it was for Terry and your SIL. I’ve been to the city and Times Square, Rockefeller Center and other places but that was before the the memorial site was completed. I really enjoyed your post!! Margy in KY
ReplyDeleteWonderful post!
ReplyDeleteKris, I am so happy that you and your family were finally able to visit NYC and especially see the 911 Memorial. I can't believe how much you did in three days. I bet the lipstick lab was a lot of fun. I will have to check it out as I've never been there.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazingly planned and executed trip, Kris! You really did hit all the highlights! I was not aware of the surviving tree from 911. That it survived - typically a tree that cannot even stand windy thunderstorms - is amazing. My daughter and sil have been there to see the museum and 911 memorial sites, but we have not. Your little E is a beautiful boy! I haven't seen a photo of him in a long time!
ReplyDeleteWhat a awesome trip! Tiff was in a wedding near there a few years ago and we flew to NYC and spent 3 days sightseeing before wedding stuff started. We dis about the same things you did and then rode the attraction to where the wedding. It was a great trip and really leaves you in awe. Judy Clark
ReplyDeleteWhat a heartfelt and meaningful Memorial Day trip to New York City! Visiting the 9/11 Memorial must have been deeply moving, especially with your family’s personal connection to first responders.
ReplyDeleteThe Survivor Tree and the memorial pools are powerful symbols of resilience and remembrance. It’s wonderful how you balanced honoring such a solemn site with fun family moments—like the American Girl store and exploring Grand Central. Navigating NYC with a large family sounds like an adventure, and it’s great the city wasn’t overcrowded. Your experience beautifully captures both the emotional weight of the memorial and the joy of discovering the city’s vibrant landmarks.
