Re love of Cottage Armoire

Remember this old armoire I found on FB Marketplace.  It does not look like it but it was banged up in many spots and no shelves or handles.

Terry put on a coat of white cabinet paint.  It smoothed out the surface and got it ready for color.  With Fusion paint you do not have to do this step.  We decided to do it to make the surface of the piece smooth.

As you can see on the first door I decided on the Fusion Cashmere to paint the cabinet.

Fusion paint is a mineral base paint so you do not need to sand or prep your furniture except to make sure the piece is clean.  This paint usually covers in one coat and cures to the furniture.

This is one coat.  It covers really well.

The inside of the cabinet was not in the greatest shape so we put on two coats to cover this well.  Plus we were going to add shelves and I wanted everything to blend.

I debated between knobs or handles and decided to do a glass vintage knob.

I want this piece for storage.  I decided to play with baskets to see what would work for storage.  Most of the storage will be miscellaneous things like my decor books, holiday decor, throws etc.

I like the finished look.

You know how one thing leads to another!  With taking down the items on the wall behind this cabinet we touched up the holes.  Then I decided that I am going to need to add something to this wall behind the cabinet and on the little side wall to give some texture and pattern.

I am thinking some kind of wallpaper pattern so the cabinet does not blend into the wall color.  I am on the hunt.  I also thought maybe a faux brick look.  I will have to see what I can find.  I will share that with all of you when I get that figured out.

I do love this piece and I have lots of new storage.
I wish I could have sanded down the original piece but it was not sanding down to a good looking natural wood underneath the stain.
Fusion paint then was my next choice.

Fusion is my newest found paint that is easy to work with and gives a nice finish to your furniture pieces.
From the reviews I have read it holds up well.

Remember if you do not want a matte finish you an always use Fusions clear coat stain and finishing oil to cover the paint to give your piece a gloss sheen.  I used this on my coffee table and dining room table.

Have a great rest of the week.
We are still in the deep freeze and I do feel so sorry for all of you southerner's and East coasters that were hit so hard with the ice and snow.  I know you are not used to that kind of winter weather and I hope all of you are doing ok are safe and have electricity etc.
Yikes this winter so far has been harsh!
Hugs,
Kris

  2. Wow! What a fabulous piece! I love those triple doors, so unique and like Kitty said, it's so functional. The inside looks too pretty to keep the doors closed with all those baskets inside. I'd be tempted to keep them open! I can't wait to see what you put behind it!! Can you come shopping with me now?? xoxo

  6. That really looks great, Kris. I love all the baskets you're using too! At first I thought you took the two side doors off for how the doors blended into the background.

We've had power but been without cable, internet going on 4 days. First world problems.

  8. I love the paint! The Armoire is incredibly beautiful now, and very useful to hid stuff.
Yes, I can imagine some kind of pretty wall paper behind.
Today the machinery continues to work in our old ppl neighborhood. We have one guy driving a little Bobcat thing, but of course that little thing is not so helpful now that the snow is solid as cement on top. We also have two guys driving Deere tractors lifting huge mounds of snow from the sides of the streets and dumping the snow in the field behind our club house. How great is that? It is really cold out and I have been staying inside sewing, unsewing and playing the piano. I should do some chores.
Kris, I really like how this turned out.

  10. Hi Kris,
This is amazing. I love, love, love the armoire. I love how you have it organized inside as well. The baskets are so classy. I love that.
I just organized two of my dressers that I use for crafts. I used some baskets I had on had to help get things organized.

I want to try the paint. Where do you purchase it?

  14. I love how it turned out! Such a great storage piece and looks good on that wall. I know you will find the right wallpaper to put behind it. I found a place here that has the Fusion paint. Going to keep it in mind next time I need to paint something. We are all thawed out except for a few patches of ice in the shade. Didn’t lose electricity, thank goodness! Back to 30-40’s this week.I’m glad Spring gets here by March! Stay warm, Kris!

  17. I love the new look and baskets are great and clever storage look. Thank you for the review of the Fusion pint. I recently purchased a small jar to try but haven't used it yet. Stay warm. We are in Florida near Sarasota in RV and there is talk of snow Sunday night. Yikes. My daughter and family are back in NC and so far have managed not to lose power. So much suffering other places weather-related. Stay warm and safe to all. Xoxo

  20. I LOVE that color! It's perfect! Not a white/white but a blend of creamy off-whites-bisque. It's gorgeous on that piece. I can't believe how well that piece fits in that corner. It's like it was made for it. I am going to have to look at this fusion paint. Great idea for storage and you can't go wrong with baskets to hide things in that you don't like looking at. xo Diana
