Saturday Spotlight: Life Behind The Blogger

Susan from Must Love Junk, and myself (Kris) Junk Chic Cottage wanted to do a regular feature on our blogs, something unique that hasn't been done before.   So we came up with an idea to 'spotlight the real life behind the blogger' in a more personal way.
There is so much talent and inspiration in blogland, and we thought it would be fun to bring you a closer look at the person behind the blog.

Every week on Saturday we will spotlight a blogger and have them tell us a little bit about themselves and their blogs.  You will be able to see and read about each of the bloggers on both Susan's and my blog.

Saturday March 15

Good Saturday morning everyone.  It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to another really sweet blogger this week.  Shanon from Vintage Sparkle Chic.
Shanon is as sweet and has a really super cute blog.  After reading about Shanon please hop over and check out her great blog.

I am so honored and so excited to be featured for Saturday Spotlight: Life Behind the Blogger.

I am from Vermont but moved to Colorado when I was 23. My family has all followed me out here. I had to move because of very bad allergies and asthma and I needed to live in a dry climate. I am so much better here but I do miss Vermont and all the moisture. Colorado is so dry! I have been here almost 19 years. I work as a dental hygienist three days a week.

I am married to my love, Michael, this year makes 15 years for us.

We have two beautiful girls. Taela (left) just turned 13 and Kila will be 11 today!
We love to just spend time hiking, camping, grilling and just being together.

My style is shabby french, I love whites with splashes of color. I recently painted my kitchen cabinets and I am thrilled with how they turned out.

A splash of turquoise for the island.

I also love shabby green. This mirror is new to me with the perfect patina. It matches my shabby green bistro chair perfectly.

Gardening is my favorite thing to do. I thought I would share some of my flowers with you.
I love peonies. They are one of my most favorite flowers.

I love to watch the birds and read out back on the patio.
I am obsessed with counting the bird species and am up to 46 in my yard.
My husband says they eat better than we do…..he may be right. :))

We love to entertain in the summer. Everyone gathers on the patio enjoying cocktails and great food.

I spend hours gardening in the spring and summer. By the time fall rolls around I am so done with it.

Last year I planted Peony Poppies and plan on doing it again this spring. I loved their huge heads, yummy goodness of large flowers.

The second of my most favorite flowers is David Austin Roses. They are as large as peonies and flower for most of the summer into fall.

Can you tell I am sooo ready for spring to start??
My favorite time of the year is about to begin and I couldn't be happier.

Thank you so much Kris, for featuring me today.

~Shanon

Thanks so much Shanon.  Your girls are so cute and I love love love your outdoor space.  Thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself with us.  Now that you have gotten to know Shanon please hop over to Susan's blog and get to know another sweet blogger Lori from Not Forgotten Farm.

Have a great week end everyone.

Memories

I think we are all over this harsh winter throughout the country.  We all are dreaming of Spring and Summer.  We have seen record breaking snowfalls and unforgiving temps this winter here in the Midwest.  Not sure if we will ever see Spring but we can hope and dream of warmer days ahead.

I found some pictures of my flowers from last summer.  It gave me a smile and good feeling to look at them.  So I thought I would share that feeling with all of you.  I am not even going to write a caption on these just enjoy the view!

Here's hoping for warmer and prettier flower days ahead.

Even Midge wants the sunshine and warm weather to come!
Well have a great week and hopefully just maybe we will see flowers and be able to open the windows soon.
Have a great week.
Be sure to stop back on Saturday for Spotlight.  Susan and I have two new bloggers  for you to get to know better.

Chair redo into ottoman

Good Morning.  Hope your week end is going great.

I am starting on the redo in my living room and one of the items I am doing is repurposing two dining room chairs into an ottoman.

Remember these Mr. and Mrs. dining room chairs I got awhile back.  I loved them but they just were not fitting into my dining room decor.

Remember the great chippy legs on these chairs.  That is what drew me to them in the first place.

Well..........
I took the backs off the chairs and hooked the lower seats together to make this part of the new ottoman.  I love when I can repurpose things and give them a new life.

I still wanted some of the chippy legs to show through.  I also had Terry cut me a piece of mdf wood to make the top of the ottoman flat under the slipcover.

Just added a little Easter/Spring vignette to the ottoman this morning.

There you have it a new ottoman for the living room made with repurposing the chairs.
I have begun the redo of the living room and hope to have more to show you soon.  As you can see in the background I did some paint treatments to my white armoire and I found another old door I did a paint treatment on.   I am adding back in more of the cream to the grey and white.
Have a great start to the new week.
Kris
