Saturday Spotlight: Life Behind the Blogger

Susan from Must Love Junk, and myself wanted to do a regular feature on our blogs, something unique that hasn't been done before.   So we came up with an idea to 'spotlight the real life behind the blogger' in a more personal way.
There is so much talent and inspiration in blogland, and we thought it would be fun to bring you a closer look at the person behind the blog.

Every week on Saturday we will spotlight a blogger and have them tell us a little bit about themselves and their blogs.  You will be able to see and read about each of the bloggers on both Susan's and my blog.
September 6th

This week on Spotlight I have the wonderful honor to introduce you to Patty from My Mountain Blessings.  Patty is sweet, spiritual and her and the hubby are a great DIY team.  Please take time to read about Patty and then go over and see her beautiful blog and all the DIY's she has done to her sweet home.

WOW!
What a blessing to be asked by Kris from "Junk Chic Cottage"
to be part of her "Saturday Spotlight"....
She is such a beautiful person
and her blog.....
oooohhhh...
Such eye candy!

Hello......
My name is Patty...
My Blog is called
I started writing my blog as a Pastors wife
in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky....
in 2009....

Yes.....
I am a true "Blue" Kentucky girl....
I almost persuaded myself after our latest move....
that I should change the name of my blog...
After all, we moved from the mountains
to the rolling hills of Ky...
We call it "Farm Country"....

My blog is all about my daily blessings.....
Thus....
I still call it
My Mountain Blessings!

Our "current" home is a beautiful Cape Code style Farmhouse.....
It sits on 2 1/2 acres with beautiful views all around.....
"Current"....
I have to laugh.....
Being part of a ministry family...
You just never know where you may end up....
We have moved a total of 16 times over the past 35 years...
During that time we have built 2 homes....
Completely remodeled 4.......
shewwww...
I am just worn out.....
But it has been a great adventure....

Hopefully this will be our retirement home.....
We currently are busy redoing every inch of the interior....
Of course, those of you who stop by often......
Naturally, I would have to include a few exterior gardening projects.....
This pergola was added as a "Mother's Day" present this past May....
You can read more HERE

We...
 (my hubby and me)...

Yes...we do all the projects around here...
from the design....
 to the demolition....
and the remodel....
all by our little ole selves....
Every single part..
No contractors...
No interior designers...........................
Just the two of us....

You gotta love a man who can build anything...
And boy, I have been blessed with a handy dandy type guy....
You can see some of our work here...

We have been married for 35 years....
We have three beautiful daughters and 5 Grands...
Being part of a ministry family
You learn to go with the flow...
Appreciate God's goodness...
and Laugh...
lots of silliness around here.....

Some of my greatest pleasures:
My family of course....

 And Gardening....
I just Love digging in the dirt...
I get such enjoyment from the garden...
Check out my garden Here

I am passionate about ministry to women.....
I am truly blessed to be part of a great Prison/jail Ministry
I also lead in a wonderful Christian Women's Community group called;
Bluegrass Women's Fellowship.....
We encourage and motivate each other toward good works.....
Hebrews 10:24

I also find great pleasure
In the study of the Bible.....
I find it to be extraordinarily interesting and challenging...
and I love sharing all the wonderful nuggets
I find while studying with others...

I would call my Home style...
Eclectic Farmhouse.....
I love a little Wimsey in unexpected places....
and a little glam...
(Every girl needs a little glam......)
I also love anything chippy and old.....
As I type this....
My decor style sounds complicated...
Really.... its not...
To me its simple....
If I love it..
I use it in my home...

I love to display my collections....

You just never know where you may see an old white pitcher

Or a ....Plate..
hanging, leaning or stacked.....

Or a pig...
I love pigs with wings...
I hear you laughing....
Yes... it is a little quirky...
but that's me.....

That is my little touch of  unexpected Whimsy
and surprise in my home....

I try to keep my Lifestyle simple too....
I love going barefoot...
or maybe a pair of flip flops....

My blog is a place to share and count the many blessings
I experience day to day.....
in My home...
with my family...
In my garden...
In My Life......
I want my words to be a source of encouragement......
My theme this year...

I hope to inspire others to the Goodness of the Lord....

I hope you have enjoyed your visit as much as I have enjoyed
sharing my blessings with you!
Thanks for stopping by!

May your days be truly Blessed!

So, my very dear friends,
don’t get thrown off course.
Every desirable and beneficial gift
comes out of heaven.
The gifts are rivers of light cascading down
from the Father of Light.
There is nothing deceitful in God,
nothing two-faced, nothing fickle.
He brought us to life using the true Word,
showing us off as the crown of all his creatures.
James 1: 6-18 MSG

Thank you Patty for letting us get to know you better.  Now that you have read about Patty please hop over to Susan's blog and meet another of my fave bloggers Julia from Vintage with Laces.

Sweeeeeet Give Away!!!!

Happy "Hump" Day.  Woooooo Hooooo Sweet Give Away Day!!!!!

I have a really sweet Giveaway for all you!

Yep you know how I love to give a shout out to wonderful and talented people on Etsy.

Well I found the wonderful and sweet and very talented Pamela from One Paisley Pig and she has offered to have a give away on my blog.

I do not sew as many of you know so I rely on having people that do make my visions for me.

I wanted to do Emergency Office Kits for gifts this year for Christmas and also give some of these away to the girls that come to my Charity Girlfriend Party in December.

Soooooo........  I found Pamela from One Paisley Pig that made these Emergency Kits and they are soooooo cute.

I asked her if she would sew some for me so I could fill them myself and add some bling.
She agreed and being the sweet person she is she also agreed to do a giveaway to one of you of her Emergency "Murphy" bags.

So here goes.................

Loved Loved this black and white Daisy fabric.  So these are the bags she made and sent to me.

This is the inside of the bags not yet filled.  Isn't this fabric with the sweet sayings so cute.  She has zip lock bags in the middle and little pockets on the sides to fill with whatever emergency fillers you like.

So I went to the dollar store and found office emergency fillers for my bags.  These are going to be office emergency kits so I tried to focus on things you might need at the office.  You could also use these bags in the glove compartment of your car or even down in your purse.  Love the many ideas you can do with these sweet bags.

Here is one that I filled.

Love the zipper plastic bags to fill with little things like tums, listermint strips, chap stick etc.

If you go out to lunch and have that spicy Mexican food well you will have this handy little scope tooth brush to use before heading back to work.

Here is the bag folded and hooked with Velcro.  Pamela did such a great job on sewing these bags.  Beautiful work.

Well most of you that know me know I cannot leave well enough alone.  So I wanted to add my own little bling to the bags.  So I found these polka dot daisies to make and added to the closure of the bag.

Cute Right?!

Just gives a little bling to the bag.  Pamela was so sweet to let me embellish these the way I wanted to give a little touch of myself to the gift.

Here is one of the many bags Pamela has for sale in her Etsy shop.  So so cute.

She finds the most wonderful and useful all purpose fillers for her Emergency Bags.

Just look at all the cool stuff she puts in these bags.  It is amazing how much stuff one little cute bag can hold.

Ok so now you have a wonderful chance to win one of these cute bags from Pamela.  All you have to do is go over to Pamela's Etsy Shop and look around at all the wonderful things she sells and then come back and leave me a comment on which bag you would love to win.  That is it.  I know you might have a few people on your birthday and Christmas lists that might get a lot of wonderful use out of these bags.  They make great gifts.
So while you are there think about getting a few of these for gifts.
Someone said the other day in the store I was in that there is only 16 more Fridays before Christmas.  What??? Yep the holidays will be here quickly.  So get a jump on your gift giving and get a few of these for your bff's or family members.
Pamela also offers this pattern you can purchase and download to make these yourself.  You know all of you out there than can sew!!!!!  So you could customize these bags and make them yourself for great gifts.

She will also have versions like mine that come empty and you can just buy the bag and fill them yourself.  If you love these bags like I do and have friends and family in mind that you need a great gift for then Pamela is your go to person.

She is sweet and oh so fast to get your order out to you too.

So go on and jump over to her Etsy Shop look around and then come back and tell me which lovely bag you would love to win from the Giveaway.
Easy Peasy.
Hope everyone joins in on this great giveaway.  I will have the winner on Sunday's post so don't delay getting in on this great giveaway.

Pink Heals Fire Truck

Hello Everyone.  Hope the Holiday Week End was great for all of you.

As a lot of you know my hubby is the Fire Chief of the Buffalo Grove Fire Department and on this holiday week end each year they have Buffalo Grove Days to celebrate Labor Day Week End.   On Sunday they have the parade and usually each year I will ride in Terry's Fire Chief Car and wave and throw candy to the kids in the crowd.  It is always fun and an honor to be part of the parade.

This year it was a little different.  Terry walked in the parade with the Village Manager, the police chief and a few of the trustee's  so my daughter, son in law (that is a firefighter) and my granddaughter Abby and I were all able to ride on the Pink Heels Fire Truck this year in the Parade.  What an honor it was.

This is the Pink Heals Fire Truck named Jessica that is part of the Northern Illinois Pink Heals Chapter part of the Guardians of the Ribbon.
You can read about this great cause here.
They also have a facebook page here.

"Guardians of The Ribbon, dressed in pink fire suits, will drive pink fire trucks across the country every year to spread our awareness campaign supporting all women in their fight against cancer. We inspire cities and empower leaders to support the women of their communities to Care Enough to Wear Pink. The Guardians bring the tour to help raise money and awareness for the non-profit entities that help women in their City and State. In addition, this non-profit supports and helps other non-profit programs raise money by bringing the pink fire trucks to various fund raisers to assist in the efforts at no charge to the organization. As Guardians of The Ribbon, are goal is to spread the “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” campaign until all are in pink shirts. Why? Because Pink Heals!"

This man is Steve Rusin who is a hero in so many ways.  First of all he is a long time dedicated firefighter for Buffalo Grove Fire Department and was the driving force behind getting this pink fire truck in action to raise money for this worthy cause.  You can read about Steve and all his efforts here.

Here is Abby on the left and her bestie Aubrey getting ready to hop on the pink fire truck for the parade.

This is Maureen aka "Queen Mo" who is a recent breast cancer survivor and this year's guest of honor to lead Jessica into the parade.

One of the beautiful things you can do is leave a sweet message, prayer, wish or blessing for anyone that has passed from cancer or is a survivor or currently fighting breast cancer on the pink heals truck.

Here are some of the crowd getting their places to watch the parade.

The honor guard starts off the parade for the fire department.

My daughter Jen and little granddaughter Abby waiting to go.

The kids were so excited to be on top of the pink heels truck in the parade.

Abby and I at the end of the parade.  Wooooo it was a hot up there on the truck.  We were a little melted!!!!

It was a fun day at the parade and all the festivities for Buffalo Grove Days.  Bittersweet with this being the last fling for summer fun.

Hope your week end was great.
Have a safe and happy week.
Kris
