It is amazing what a little Goodwill and some epoxy can do!!!

It has been raining and just miserable here in Chicago.  We had 8 inches of snow last week and then by the week end cold and rain.  The rain has washed away a lot of the snow. My sump pump has been running non stop with all the snow melting and rain.  I guess it is a good thing maybe Spring is trying to appear.

Back at Christmas my dear friend Kathy gave me a beautiful repurposed bird feeder she made from items she had and picked up at thrift stores.  I just love this piece and can't wait to put it out in the garden this summer.

It got me thinking maybe I need a trip to Goodwill!!!!! So I did and these are my repurposed birdbaths and feeders I made.  Each one cost less than $5 dollars to make depending on what I could find at Goodwill and what I had at home.

I loved that I could re purpose these old bowls, vases and candle sticks into something pretty for the garden.

A lot of the plates and vases already had pretty flowers or birds in the designs.
This little bird bath can be a feeder and a bath with the vintage bowl and plate.

The base on this feeder is an aqua blue and the top feeder is aqua blue too. The little birds will be able to sit as they eat with this having a bigger surface.
I love this one because the birds will be able to sit on the feeder to eat.  Love the aqua in the vase and the feeder top.

This one will be able to be a feeder or a bird bath with it having the wider bowl. It is hard to see but I love the etched flower pattern in the center of this bowl on top.

In this feeder I have a few of my grandmothers old anchor bowls and plates put together.

I really loved making these they were so easy and I think they will add some pretty to the garden this summer.  I have mine and made the others for Easter gifts.  If you have a thrift store or Goodwill near you check them out for these old vintage pieces to put together for pretty bird feeders.

I am working on some more Easter decor today around the house. I wanted to show you something I got at an indoor flea market this past week end from my sweet friend Jeanine at Chippy Shabby.  She took this old lunch box and added some moss and a daffidol plant.  I had some little bunnies to add. Isn't it cute. I always love seeing Jeanine and her cute chippy shabby both.  You can check out her blog here. http://chippyshabby.blogspot.com
Have a great week.

They really are easy to make but if you come over this summer for the Flea Market I will have to make a special one for you to take back with you. I can't wait to put it out in the garden too with pretty flowers. Ohhhhh can't wait for that to happen.
I do Easter and will have a house full so I am trying to decorate some for Easter. I got all the eggs filled to hide for my granddaughter and nephew and did all the baskets so that is done!!!!! Now on for food planning and cleaning Yikes!!! Have a great week.

    1. Hi Lynn,
I just took my boots I think they were yellow and spray painted them with the paint that goes on any surface including plastic and then left them out in the sun last summer in the garden and they held up and faded some more. Love that. They are actually painted a cream color but with all the fading this summer they are almost white now. Have a great week.

  5. Kris, what a great and pretty idea. All the pieces look like they were meant to be together. We have the tiniest birds, late in the summer, with little yellow fronts. Wouldn't they look sweet perched on one of these? Great idea and good job..Happy Monday..Judy

  19. I made a few of these several years ago using colored glass pieces, but your clear/crystal ones are so beautiful! You have inspired me to scrounge through my boxes to see what I can put together :-) And I'm so glad you mentioned painting your boots white - I have an old pair that doesn't fit anyone, but they are black. I want to try painting them instead of tossing them!

    1. Hi Patty,
Thanks for coming by. These are so easy to make and I think they are really pretty to put in the garden. I hope you can find some old vintage pieces and put them together. The epoxy glue works the best. It is fast and sticks like cement when it dries.

I used the spray can paint that is made for plastic and it worked really great to paint my boots. I keep a couple of sets out in the garden all summer and with the sun beating on them they fade so it is fun to repaint them each year for a new color scheme.

  21. Morning Kris,
Loved all your lil bird feeders, everyone adorable and such a fun repurposing idea.
A friend made me a mini cake plate like that and just love it. using just a glass candlestick and a salad plate. I happened to have just the right size dome from a cheese board that fit it perfectly too, so I can use it 2 ways. It sits stately on my counter top in the kitchen
with some dried/shellaced bagels and biscuit within, and can be used sweetly for a luncheon for 2 with some brownies or cookies a top.
That was a very cute idea with the lunch box too. All your bunnies are so cute.
Blessings for a great rest of the week hon,

    1. Hi Kathy,
I did glue them with epoxy glue. It sticks quickly and wears like cement. It is pretty inexpensive and works the best on glass. The epoxy is a few dollars and can be found at Walmart, Home Depot etc. I have tried other glues and they just do not hold up like epoxy does. Good luck they are really easy to put together.

    1. The birds love them. I think because they are clear so no distractions for them. I do anchor mine in the dirt just so if a big wind comes along. They are pretty heavy with the leaded glass in some of the pieces but I still worry about them blowing over and breaking in a bad wind storm so I do try to anchor mine down in the soil and keep them in a place where they cannot break. I hope you will make one they really are pretty and I think a great way to repurpose old crystal. I have made a few short ones too since I did this post and they came out cute too. So if you do not want a tall one you can do shorter ones too. Thanks for coming by.
