For the Love of White!!!!!

Happy Thursday.
I know this post is going to be a real shocker!!! NOT!!!!

I painted something white.  Yep I wasn't going to and then the decor crazy of my love of white got to me.

Ok remember that sweet church alter I scored back in March.  Well I really loved this piece with all its history but I have been staring at it for some time thinking maybe it should be white and chippy to match the other vintage white and chippy's in the room.

Ok after talking Terry into painting this white.  Yep I got the look!!!! but still convinced him to paint this white.   We put up paint plastic and decided to use his handy dandy indoor paint sprayer.

Yep this little baby paints in no time flat.  It is called the Home Right Finish Max I got it for Terry for Valentine's Day from Home Depot.  Took all of 10 minutes to paint this alter.  We let the first coat dry for an hour and then 10 more minutes and we had coat two on.
Easy Peasy.  Love this sprayer.  It keeps the paint on the piece and there is little if any paint spray anywhere else.  I put up the plastic just in case but it was all good.

Two coats and this was ready to be chippified!

Took the mouse sander to this and got the distressed and chippy look I wanted.

I like this alter white and chippy.  Just is more my style.
Come back on Saturday I will have a wonderful blogger in Spotlight.
Have a great rest of the week.
Kris

    1. Hi Nancy,
It is a small hand held electric sander. They call it a mouse because it is so small. Love this thing.

Here is a link to show you what one is. I have a black and decker but a couple other companies make them too. The nice part is that it catches the dust in a dust cup. Less mess.

      Hope this helps.

  20. All I can say is WOW. It was nice before but now it really does seem to fit better with the rest of the room. Your husband is a doll! I laughed when I saw the bird cages.....I have a bird cage out in my garage that is waiting for it's second coat of white paint:)

  23. Love the alter white! But now the leather couch doesn't have a second in the not white category...when will the couch get painted LOL. Just kidding. You have the magic touch when it comes to making a room look ever so lovely. I wish I had your vision and bravery.

  24. I am loving it white! the wood wasn't bad, but oh how much better white.

  25. It's a beautiful piece either way but white definitely fits into your room. Gorgeous job!

  26. Of course it would be white, and so needed to be just that.... If this piece (Altar) was an old beat up raw wood washed in historical time weathered with that wash of grey it would have been a piece to leave as it was. But having that maple finished look to it I just knew it would be a matter of time and you would get painting again.

kris it's and amazing statement piece for your room.... Hey you could hang the TV on the wall with a swing arm swivel to it and your hubby could build a shallow box around it and then place bifolding shutters on the box to close off the TV as a place to hide it away for the days you just don't want to see the TV. If you hang it high enough you can then use the surface of the Altar to place all your vintage pieces on it as a buffet, sidebar, or side serving table.... It frees up more space on the altar to create your beauty or entertain in your family space.

See you and all you inspire soon.

    Xoxo
Ps... Paint the shallow box and shutters that cover the TV, white! :)

    Love you girl!

What a fine hubby you have to indulge your every wish :)

    1. I love this idea for the tv! Kris, it looks wonderful painted. I've got to get one of those sprayers! I'm wondering if ASCP would work in the sprayer or would it be too thick?

    2. Kris, I love the altar white! :)) And I found a link for you to spray ASCP: https://youtu.be/S33lnCBVuvE

    3. Thanks Dore for your input. I have thought about hanging some kind of old barn doors on a track on the ceiling so they could close over the TV when it is not being watched but for now it is what it is. We watch TV in this house and to keep it real and easy for the hubby it will stay like this for now. You know me if I stare at something long enough I will figure a way to camouflage this big TV eventually!!!! Have a great week end. For some reason Dore your comments do not come into my email. Hope you come back to see this. Thanks again for your sweet visit and input.

  39. And the Lord said, "let it be white", and it was. :) What a gorgeous piece you scored Chris. It's things like your altar that bring a home to life and give it it's character.
I got a gift card for HD to get a paint sprayer as a Mother's Day gift. But I am so confused with all the different kinds out there. Do you highly recommend this one and does it work well with chalk paint? I didn't know you could spray inside. That's awesome! Can't wait to get mine!

  40. That looks great, Kris. Wow, I would be afraid to spray inside. Y'all are brave!

  41. I loved your altar but I was disappointed that you left it original. Sorry, but I thought it threw off the rest of your room. And now you have done what I hoped you would and I adore it. Your home could not be more perfect, I LOVE IT.

  44. I totally get it, Kris. There's a feeling I get in my gut when something in a room is not right and, try as I might, I can't ignore it until it's perfect. I would've been fixated on that piece instead of the tv show, if I didn't feel it was just right. I am glad you followed your instincts. The piece is lovely and I think it suits you and your style perfectly. Gorgeous! Enjoy it!

  45. Kris, I really like that you painted it. Although I liked it before, I like it even more now, because it looks lighter, or less bulky. That entire wall looks much prettier and cohesive. I also like Dore's idea. xoxo Su

  52. Kris I have to admit I did an audible gasp when I realized you painted the oak alter. Then when I saw the photos after you distressed it, it was obvious you made the right decision. It really does look much prettier and more fitting in your space! Don't you just love the HomeRight sprayer - I don't know how I lived without mine all these years.

It suits your room and if you decide to get rid of it someday someone can always strip it down again. I probably wouldn't cover the TV either-MyHero likes his TV and it is on a lot when he is home.
I assume that is all open under it (behind the piece) That must make for some great storage, too. xo Diana
