Wallpaper

Hi Everyone.

Happy 4th!   We are plugging away on the new house.  We actually got the permit for the basement renovation on Friday so this week on Wednesday the plumber will be coming to begin the plumbing for the new bathroom and laundry room in the basement.
YEAH!!!!!
PROGRESS!!!!

So excited that the basement will be started this week.
:)

The garage build permit is still being held hostage! Sigh!

I wanted to show you some wallpaper samples.

Yep! I know you think wallpaper went out in the 90's but it is slowly coming back into decor again.

At least it will be coming back into my decor.

This house has a real cottage vibe and I want to add that into my decor.

Miss neutral will be adding some color to Junk Chic Cottage III!!!!

My new sectional was delivered for the living room this week.  The color is a light gray with white running through the material.  I looked for a long time to find a reclining sectional that looked cottage.  Most  reclining sectionals are big and bulky.  This one had simple lines and nice soft fabric.

After this was delivered the light gray walls and the white cornices and white sheers seemed to plain.

Too much neutral all in one space.

I thought the answer would be new drapes with a pattern and color instead of the white sheers.

I searched for a long time for the perfect drapes to add some texture and color to this room.  No luck with ready made curtains or even finding fabric to make curtains.

Soooooo.........

I could not sleep one night and at 3am I thought hey, maybe I can just find wallpaper to bring in some interest and color to this very neutral room!

Sometimes my best ideas come in the wee hours of the morning!!

Sample one has a pretty yellow background and light gray and white for the print.  It has a great cottage feel and would bring in some pretty yellow to my grays and whites in this room.

I think I could find some pretty throw pillows to add to the sectional to enhance this paper too.

Sample two is the darker gray with the pretty white and yellow flowers.  This is a bold statement paper and would really pop on the one wall.
The dark gray background and the yellow and white flowers would give some drama to the wall for sure.

You will have to wait to see which one I picked to put up on the one wall.

Is it the darker for a bold and dramatic feel or is it the yellow pattern for a cheerful cottage feel ?

There is still a lot to come in this room with the wallpaper choice on the one wall and then unpacking my chippy white decor pieces  and furniture pieces to add to this room.

I will add some pretty end tables that I rescued and painted.

I  look forward to  the day I can have the rooms all done and a final reveal of each room to show you.

It is fun to be adding some color while staying true to my neutral love and my chippy whites.

Stay with me.  I promise to have full reveals in the coming month.

Have a great rest of the week.
Kris

  1. Your sweet cottage is coming along beautifully! I love the new sectional and would love to know the source. We are in the market for something similar and what I've seen so far in the stores are too modern or too large. Love your choice. I think the wallpaper will look great. You will have your home looking perfect in no time at all!

  2. I love the direction you are going with this already! Those two wallpaper samples are really pretty...which one will you choose? :)

  3. Kris, I love the new sectional. it's very nice. One thing about papering one wall...if you live with and decide you don't like it will be easier to change. I still kind of like wall paper. Glad you got the permit for the basement. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

One permit down, and on to go. May all of your work go smoothly.

  5. I am TICKLED for you....literally. I have goosebumps just looking at your genius at how you will bring in some TEXTURE as well as color into your white area. We both love our whites, but we both need texture and shades of either white, gray or muted. I think your idea is a great one and what a GORGEOUS array of samples, Kris. YOU have the eye for this!

  6. I have always loved wallpaper. It can make a huge difference in a room. Both of the patterns you picked out are really pretty and I can't wait to see which one you chose!

  7. Happy dance with the permit! I'm sure the outside permit is soon to follow, and you'll have it complete before fall.
I like the wallpapers, but my guess is you go with the yellow. :) Nice sectional too. We have had a sectional couch for nearly 30 years (!). When we redid our floors 5 years ago, I broke it up and made a loveseat out of the 2 ends, made 2 slipper chairs, and the corner piece is in storage. It's really quite versatile!
    Progress!

  9. Congratulations on the permit! I've never heard of it taking so long to get one. The sofa looks great! I'm a color girl so an injection of color works for me!

  10. Well, this is fun, Kris! I agree with Stacey. . .love the direction you're going with this. Both wallpaper samples are gorgeous, so you can't lose. "Bold and dramatic" or "cheerful cottage"? Hmmm. My gut tells me "cheerful cottage". But, I've been wrong before! Every time I see you pull something together I get inspired. I have so many projects in our cottage I need to finish. At least one of us is getting something accomplished. LOL Hugs.

  11. I vote for the yellow one. It seems more like the light and inviting feel of your decorating style. Altho, new cottage new taste? Hmmmm. Does that mean you'll pick the grey? Your white pieced would really stand out against it and make a statement. Argh! Guess I'll just have to wait and See! Have fun!

  13. Good Morning Kris
Love your new couch so much. It is cottage looking and looks perfect in your livingroom
So glad you got your permit to start the work in the basement. That seems like it took so long. I love both of those wallpapers so I can't wait to see which one you chose. Have a great day Kris

  14. Love this new sectional! I have been eyeballing some too, my current one is starting to wear but it has very simple lines. I don't care for the big bulky ones that are so common. I can't wait to see the room completed. I love both wallpapers maybe leaning towards the yellow??? The thing about your room is that it is like a white painter's canvas, just waiting for your artistic touches. It will look amazing no matter which wallpaper you choose! Enjoy the process!

  17. Love the sectional!! Where did you find it?
Oh my, wallpaper! :-) I have wall paper in my studio and I love it. I like the idea of doing one wall. In my studio I did the top half of the wall with wallpaper and there is trim and then I painted the lower wall.
Excited to see what you create.

  22. whatever you end up doing, I am sure it will be worthy of a magazine spread. I did a little redecorating in our family room and did the unspeakable. Went from a shabby chic slipcovered denim white sofa and love seat to a light brown tufted with nailhead trim leather sofa and chair. My husband and dog kept me constantly washing the denim slipcovers and they were hard as heck to get back on. I am loving my new look. :)

  23. While both wallpapers are lovely (even though the colors aren't shown in true color on my monitor) I'm placing my bet for your choice on the cheerful cottage feel. A touch of drama is oh so nice, however you are a cheerful, sunny girl and therefore you won't be able to resist "sunny". (Maybe a wall in the bedroom using the dramatic one?) Whichever it is, it will be gorgeous.

    1. LOL Glenda. I am leaning towards the soft and subtle yellow one. I think it says cottage and will mix nicely with my chippy white decor. I do love the drama of the darker one but I think cheerful and cottage will win out. Stay tuned. Hoping it will bring some interest and texture into this room. Happy 4th.

  25. I love wallpaper and both of these are beautiful, Kris. But that sofa is really fabulous! And it looks so comfortable too. I think everything falls into place once you have the right sofa. I sure hope that garage permit is approved soon. Probably everything will happen at once and you'll have plenty on your hands once that happens. But you'll pull it all off, I know. It's so much fun getting in on the beginning here with you at the cottage!

    Happy Fourth,

    1. I believe it is from York Cottage Classics. I will let you know later in the week when I go into the store to pick it up. It was a paper that was in stock in the store so not sure what exactly the name is. I will find out for you when I go int to purchase what she has in the store. So stay tuned. If I forget remind me please. I have a lot going on so I might forget to come back and leave you an answer. It is really pretty and is subtle. It is very cottage.
      Happy 4th.

  28. Oh, Kris, you are just a little tease! As you might know, I have an abundance of wallpaper in my cottage that really was done in the 90's. But I still love what I have. I think your choice will be just right for your cottage and even though I would love either one, I'm going out on a limb and saying you are picking the lighter of the two. But, you might surprise me. Can't wait to see. Love the sofa. So comfy and is a perfect fit for the corner..Happy 4th..xxoJudy

Happy 4th and I am so happy that you are finally getting started with the basement now I am sure the permit will come through for the garage.

    Lots of hugs,

  31. Kris, I love the yellow wallpaper and think it will go great with all your chippy white decor. I absolutely love your sectional. Can you tell me where you purchased it? I am looking for a new sectional that is white or gray that looks more Shabby Chic as well.

    1. Hi Kris,
I bought this sectional from a local furniture store called Steinhaufels. They only have one store in Illinois but several in Wisconsin. Not sure where you live. They also can be found on line too. Unfortunately they stopped making this brand of sectional but they do have other similar styles.

  32. I have always adored wallpaper. Of course, not so much when we were scraping that dry paper from the 40's and 50's off the wall (Ha!), but today's wallpapers are made for easy removal if you ever change your mind, so I say go for it...and either pattern is super charming. You know me (and my bold red), I am all about the decorating drama, so I love the dark gray. However, I know you and your amazing eye, so I know whatever you picked will be magazine worthy. Great couch btw!! Happy 4th my friend. xoxo

  33. Yay for one permit issued and hopes for the second to soon follow. Nice sectional! It looks comfortable! I love both wallpapers...I can't wait to see the one you go with. Fingers crossed you pick the one I would pick! I want to see it on the wall! Hee, hee. Which ever one you chose, it will be quite the statement. Happy 4th to you!

  34. I like your new sectional. It looks nice in that room and I bet it's comfortable since it reclines! Looking forward to seeing what else you do with this room. I will admit that I'm afraid of wallpaper since it's such a commitment to color and pattern. But I have noticed it's coming back!

  35. I like the new sectional but yes, you need some color. I really liked the second sample of the wallpaper..

  36. I'm really liking the direction you're taking with your new abode Kris. The sectional is a great find, and the wallpaper is going to really pop and pull everything together with just the right amount of color and pattern for a cottage feel.

So glad you got the permits!!

  37. Love the sectional! I am totally betting on the pale yellow paper for you...but you may just surprise me. I read the first line in your post as "playing" vs "plugging" away. You always seem to have so much fun with your décor projects, I guess my mind just interpreted it as playing. Can't wait to see which wall paper you went with.

  38. Yeah to the permit, Kris! Hopefully the one for the garage will be granted soon too. Wow, you're really going to add some color. :) I like the gray wallpaper better but the yellow one is beautiful too.
    Happy 4th of July!

  39. More exciting news! Hopefully the garage permit will be in place soon. Clever idea to use wallpaper in the new cottage. The yellow print just looks like it would be very happy with your new sofa. On the other hand, the grey print is very pretty. I know you will make the right choice! xoxo

  40. I love that wallpaper is coming back! Both your samples are lovely! You did a great job finding a reclining sectional that isn't bulky and still looks cottage-like. I miss our reclining sofas. They were so comfy! Looking forward to seeing more! Happy 4th!

  41. Happy 4th of July sweet Kris and can do anything with tools Terry. OK, because I feel I know you well and love you, I see the pastel Yellow being added into your cottage mix. It will look beautiful. The dark gray is a true punch of contrast which would look also beautiful and one I see with French Black and White ticking stripes pillows on your new sectional. Whichever you choose it will dazzle and dazzle and be an amazing change into the only whites décor.
