Project News and Vintage Hollywood Schwinn Bike

This piece is done! Well you are still seeing the before picture here.

It has been a rainy and fog filled day.  So every time I tried to get a good picture of this piece finished it came out very grainy.

I need a sunny day and I will show you how sweet the re love came out on this piece and reveal what it is.

 I promise!!  Hopefully soon!

In the meantime while I was on my lucky resale site I found this beautiful vintage Schwinn Bike.

It is the Hollywood Edition.  Not sure what that means but I just love it's cuteness.

Here are some of my garden bikes from our past Junk Chic Cottage homes.

I have really missed having a  garden bike fixed up cute in with my garden flowers.
I think this one I found today on my favorite resale site for $25 is going to clean up nicely. Maybe just maybe some paint and some beautiful flowers I think I will have a nice addition to my summer garden this year.

I guess from what the seller told me this bike is still rideable too.  Hope nobody rides away with her after I give her some love and flowers this summer out in the garden!

I promise the reveal of the new piece is coming soon.  Just wish me some sun filled days and I can click off some final pictures.

Have a great new week.
Hugs,
Kris

  3. Kris, I have always loved your garden bikes. I love the one in the house too. So cute. I have a kids' bike, I really should get it ready for summer. I think it could be so cute on the porch. Today was miserable. To bad it's raining while it's warm....would it be nice to open the windows? Blessings to you, xoxo, love , Susie

  4. Your bikes are adorable Kris. When I had a shop space I had an old peachy-pink bike from the 40's hanging on the wall, I got alot of comments because of it. 25 is such a great price, love the blue/white combo. You'll have it spiffed up with oodles of flowers covering it. I've never seen anyone grown petunias like you!

  15. Love your new bike, especially the basket on the front. I always enjoy seeing your gardens and this will be a great addition. Although it supposed to be warm here this week, it is also supposed to be grey and gloomy. So looking forward to those bright spring days!

  20. Isn't this weather the pits? Well, I DO like that it's 55 degrees though! I have my windows open and it actually kind of smells like spring. :-) I actually still have my Schwinn bike from childhood. My first real bike I got when I was 8 years old, so it's from 1970. I do use it in my garden every year now and put flowers in the basket, though I haven't dared to paint the bike since it has such sentimental value to me.

  24. I love looking at bikes used as flower planters. I have one in front of the barn and it is a joy in the summer. I could look at pictures of these all day . . . so pretty and they add so much charm to a little garden space. Great post!!!

  25. Love the bike Kris. It will be a great addition to your garden no matter what you do with it. Just keep close tabs on it so it won't get stolen. Don't know how it is where you are but around here they will come right into your yard and steal anything they can get their hands on. Wishing you lots of sunny days..xxoJudy

  29. You are the only person who I know who has ever used a bike in their garden decor, and I love it!

  30. What have you done with all the earlier bikes? Surely you didn't leave them with the new owners when you moved? If you ever decide to sell one, I'd sure be interested. I love all your makeovers!

    1. Hi Glenda,
I sold or gave the other bikes from the past away when we moved into the townhouse. I did not think I could have put them up in the space I had there. I wish I would have kept them. Just no place to store them. So I was happy to find this one pretty cheap to fix up this Spring. Go on the offer up sites and Craig's list and see what you can find.
      Have a great week.
      Kris

    2. Thanks my creative friend. I'll do that. I don't have your talent but I'll bet I could get my handyman to do some spray painting for me. I'll let you know if I come up with something.

  31. I do love that bike! If definitely has to have some flowers planted in the basket! You’ve had some really cute ones in the past. We’ve been having that gray and gloomy kind of weather too. The sun did make it out for a few hours today though. It was pretty warm for us (57) but tomorrow we’re heading back to the colder temps.

  32. I love what you have done with your past bikes. Did you have to leave them at your other cottages? I am looking forward to seeing what color you will paint this one. :-) And what flowers will be decorating it.
    Love, Carla

  33. DON'T PAINT IT! Leave it as is; it's perfectly chippy white with that blue? KEEP IT!

  34. I have loved and been inspired by your past garden bicycles. Can't wait to see this one planted in your garden. I found a retro inspired pin Schwinn a few years ago. Put her in my junque chic cottage garden last spring. Never got her planted up, but found a basket that had a previous life as a walker basket to alter and hang on her handle bars. My hubby thought my pink bike was the perfect addition to our back yard garden space. I plan on planting some real flowers in her basket this year, but for now she had faux ivy found at the thrift store for less than $5 "growing" from her basket. Hope you get some sunny days soon. The overcast days are hard to handle for the mood as well as not good for your pictures. Dreaming of spring here!

  35. Very cute! I've never had one for myself but it's definitely been something I've always had an eye out for. They usually are just too expensive, even the ones in really bad shape. You scored big on this one!
