Living Room to Living Room/Dining Room

Remember these table legs?

Remember this part of a big table.

I wanted a Harvest Table for part of my living room.

Living small has not allowed me a dining room.

I decided we needed something for Terry and I to eat dinner.  I was so tired of eating down stairs in the family room in front of the TV.

The Expand o Matic table is down there but it is a pain to pull out and set up the leaves every night.

That table is better used for a big function or holiday.

Sooooo what is a girl to do?

I figured and re figured the living room space in my head and with moving things around in this room.
I am a visual person and need to see things!

This is the set up before we thought of adding a dining table.   Two of the big chairs had to go to make room for the dining table.

Terry took the legs and old framing and cut it down to make a long skinny length for the harvest table.
I loved it.
We went and got some wood planks thinking we would use them for the top and stain or paint them.

So here is a partial picture of the table in progress.
It still needs the drawers put back in the ends and it needs the top put on and then chairs!!!!!

As you can see my design assistant Buddy was making sure this design was not going to impede his looking out that window to the world going by each day!

I swear in a few days I will have this table done and in its place and the new "old" chairs will be re loved to go around this table.

Then the set up will be figured out and I will have the new living room / dining room done to show all of you.

So many things going on to finish this project quickly.
November 1st already and the holidays on our heels!  Yikes!

I will be back in a few days to show you the finished room.

Hugs,
Kris

  5. This is a great idea, you and Terry are furniture re-design wizards! For years my hubby and I schlepped downstairs with tv trays to have dinner, so I know that's a real pain in the caboose, especially when you forget something. This new table will be perfectly adorable I know!

  17. Now you will make even more use of this beautiful room! This is exciting, Kris, and I know you're already thinking ahead to incorporating that new dining space into your Thanksgiving and Christmas decorating. The table really is of a scale that will fit the room, a hard thing to pull off with a dining table.

Just when we thought you couldn't improve a room any more, you do it! Enjoy!

  21. I can't wait to see your new set-up! I didn't realize you and Terry didn't have a place to sit for meals except for the family room...I'm guessing not enough room in your kitchen for a small table and two chairs? Regardless, you always have the best ideas. I know this will look amazing and serve your needs!

  22. Am excited to see it. We all needing a dining table I think! My hubby and I sit at ours half of the day.. having our coffee and tea, going through mail, I sit there and read, he looks at his books, we pay our bills there, look at magazines, etc. It has the best light for reading, etc..... and of course, we almost always eat there. And it's nice to have it to decorate for the different holidays, which for me only entails a pretty tablecloth or placemats, and some sort of centerpiece.. but it's fun anyway. Glad you will have a table! It'll be great! xoxoxo Marilyn

  24. I get the eating in front of the tv thing. John loves to do it and once in awhile it's fun, but I'm putting my foot down and having more dinners at a table like humans lol It's different when the kids move out, so I was slacking... but no more! ;)

    Can't wait to see it!

  27. A harvest table sounds like a great solution to providing you dining space upstairs. You could even use it as a softa table too! I love flexible pieces which are great for smaller homes. Looking forward to seeing it finished!

  28. Kris, I'm so looking forward to seeing the finished table! I think it is going to look amazing and be perfect for dining! When it's just two, we seem to fall into habits we don't like. We try to eat at our bar so that I don't have to undress the table every evening! Love and hugs!

  32. You are super creative! I have always lived in tiny homes and sometimes I find that the only way to get it right is to live with it and go through a little trial and error to see what works and what doesn't. Sounds like you're doing just that! I can't wait to see how the room comes together. xoxo
