White Distressed Table Part 2

I shared in my last post I was going to use candle wax to get a white wash chippy look to the barn board table top.

Marie from Interior Frugalista Blog who I might add is a furniture whisper! mentioned to me she has had better luck using vaseline instead of candle wax.  She told me the vaseline is easier to wipe off than candle wax.

Knowing how she has reloved so many beautiful pieces of furniture.
I decided to take her advice.
Glad I did my table top came out beautiful.

Ok first thing I did was to buy some Vaseline and small paint brushes.

Terry brushed the vaseline in a random pattern all over the barn planks using the small paint brushes.
Then we use regular white latex paint and lightly brushed it onto the table top.  The paint went smoothly over the vaseline.
I see Buddy's ball is photo bombing!!!!

After the paint was dry we wiped off the painted planks with a dry cloth.  Anywhere the vaseline was on the table the wood did not take the paint.  It gave me this nice white washed look.

This was an easy peasy way to get a weathered and white wash look to the table top.  Now the old burn and oil stains are covered and the natural barn wood can still shine through.

I have to say this was an easy and great way to get the white weather look to wood.  No sanding and mess in your house.

Have a great rest of the week.
Hugs,
Kris

  13. KRIS! That was brilliant! Oh I wish I would have known this before I painted a wooden dresser a few years ago. I wonder if I can still do this - I think I may want to paint the dresser a gray or very pale gray/blue!

  24. Kris, The table looks beautiful. I love getting all these ideas from you and other bloggers. My own style is early second hand and whatever color it came in, but I love, love yours. Maybe I'll do an all white room. At 75 I don't think I want to start from fresh on the whole house. Would if I could. So pretty and what a great idea to use Vaseline. Keep showing us beauty. Sandy

  25. What a great idea. I love when others share great tips like that. Who would believe you could brush paint right over vaseline? Crazy. The top looks great. LOL about Buddy's ball. At the end of the night I walk through our place and pick up all Scruffy's toys? It reminds me of when I had little kids at home and picked their toys up at night. I love how much he loves all his toys there but wish he would put one back before he got the next one out. LOL. Good luck with that!
Have a great night-- xo Diana
