Nashville, Franklin Tennessee and Living room/ dining room wall change.

Hello everyone.  We got home last night from our trip to Nashville.  I did not take a whole lot of pics but I will share my thoughts on visiting Nashville and Franklin Tennessee.

This is the inside of the Mercantile shop.  I have to be honest I thought Franklin would have more vintage stores.  Most of the stores were boutiques of very expensive upscale clothing and merchandise.  The shops themselves and the interior decor for the shops was more impressive than what they sold.  This is a very historic part of Tennessee and the buildings are amazing.

This is the famous well known old factory that was converted into shops and restaurants.  Lots of local artists selling their wares and lots of good eats.

It was then onto Nashville.  My oldest granddaughter Abby is into country western and enjoyed every minute of the music capital.  Broadway street is row after row of open bars with country music.  We ate at Jason Alden's restaurant.  My daughter and two granddaughters loved  Nashville very much.

They both got their first official cowgirl boots.  Abby has concert tickets this fall to see a few of her favorite country western singers she will have cute boots.

This was a cute place where you can sing and play guitar and get your recording.

Love the sparkle guitar

OK....... Here is where I am at in my living room and dining room.  I got some wallpaper trying to give that long wall into my dining room some color and texture.  I feel the look is more romantic prairie and not French Country like I wanted.

This is the wallpaper up close.  It has muted cream and brown in the flowers.
This wall is a work in progress.
I am torn between what I have and what I really think  would be more me.

This inspiration picture is kind of what I am going for but with the texture to the wallpaper instead of plain white walls.  Then adding my mirror and wood patina shelf like in the inspiration picture below.

This is my inspiration.  Whites with natural wood.

Since that wall is so long the wall needs something to give it some texture.  I need it to be very understated for my taste.

This is an embossed wallpaper that is paintable.

I think this might be the answer and of course I have a saint for a husband and he is willing to hang this and then we will paint it a shade of white.  This might give me the look I want for the wall with texture.  More understated than the paper up there now.
It is so frustrating when I cannot get the look that is in my head into the room and feel settled with it.

This is two of the samples of crown molding.  I have a few more I am waiting on to arrive.  I think with the white flower embossed paper the crown with design will give a French country look.

I like all the natural wood pieces and mirror I have.  I think they will look good with the white embossed walls.

You can see the patina to the wood is sweet!

I am glad to be back home from the trip.  It is fun to go away but nice to come home to your own bed.

I would say Franklin Tennessee is a good destination to visit.  It is very upscale clothing boutiques so if you like that this is your place.

Like I mentioned the stores and buildings have more salvage and original pieces for their decor than what is for sale.

Nashville is always a fun destination.  I have to say Tennessee is a beautiful state and the people are so friendly.

Have a good week.  I will be back with the new look for the living room/dining room wall.
Hugs,
Kris

  1. Glad you guys had a great time in Nashville!!!! The little music studio is so cute, I love that it is pink. Sorry the wallpaper did not turn out the way you envisioned. Sounds like you have already come up with a solution though. Happy Wednesday!!

  2. I am happy you had a good time and it sounds like Jenn and the girls had a ball. It sounds that while you liked the trip, you were kind of disappointed that the stores were not to your taste for finding treasures. It is so disappointing to go to all the work of putting up wallpaper and then find it falls short of the look you were going for. You are right-it doesn't scream French Country to me but I do think it is pretty. I have used that embossed wallpaper in a couple of rooms (that had kind of rough walls) and, once painted, it was gorgeous. I hope that works for you. Also-love the moldings! Will write in a bit and fill you in on the latest here.

  3. Your granddaughters are so grown up!! Time really does fly, doesn't it? I think the boots are amazing, I bet they'll wear them a lot and they'll always remember that fun trip when they do! Wallpaper...hmmm...well, you know my saga...up, then down! So I get it 100%. I say don't fight it, do what makes you happy, because if you're anything like me (and I know you are) you won't feel settled in your space until you love the look that surrounds you. The new plan is lovely. Can't wait to see how it all turns out!! xo

  5. What a fun trip, Kris. It sounds like some of the shops were a bit of a let-down. I’ll bet you had some amazing food, though. How fun for the girls to get cowboy boots.
Your wallpaper is very pretty, but you’ve come up with a better solution to make you happy. I’ll look forward to seeing the finished results. What a blessing to have such a dear of a hubby. He loves to make YOU happy. ❤️

  6. I am so glad you had a good time. Franklin used to have great shops, but like you say it is all high end now! I know you will figure it out, Kris and it will be beautiful!

  7. Kris, I do love the wall paper, but I understand it is not what you are looking for. At least you tried. The embossed looks very good. I do think it will be a better choice.
Tennessee is a great adventure. So glad you made it there. My nephew is a recording producer there in Nashville. I need to visit him and his wife Kim
I love the photos you shared. I think our world is running out of old stuff.
People have either destroyed it, painted it purple or traded it in cash for clunkers... 😊 We have a shortage of old stuff. You might need to make your own old furniture.
I am glad you had a superb time and back home sweet home.

  9. So glad you enjoyed your trip. It is always fun to getaway, shop and try different restaurants. Sorry the shops were disappointing. The girls look so cute in their cowboy boots. What a darling recording studio, love the pink! The embossed wallpaper is gorgeous. Love the crown too. I think you will finally get the look you want. Hus

  10. Thanks for sharing your photos Kris! Pleased to hear that you enjoyed your trip - it sounds like the usual shops that you visit for special items for your home are much better - although how wonderful to enjoy the buildings themselves. I'm sorry that your first choice of wallpaper didn't work out, but it's great that you have now found the solution. Getting home again is very special indeed. Hugs, Gilly (UK)

  11. Hi, I loved the photos of your family. Those eyes and smiles, so beautiful.
Good luck with the project. We have a textured wallpaper in our office, it has held up very well.
I am looking forward to what you and Terry create next. I always learn from you.

  12. Well, Kris, too bad the merchandise you were interested in was mostly just display. I think it was our road trip in 2016 when we stopped in Franklin, and then Nashville. I wanted to see City Farmhouse at the time, which I did, and actually bought some things. They've since moved. Nashville was fun.
Now, the DR....have you shown us that wallpaper before? I just dont remember it! I think you're going to love that new paper, I do..Terry's such a good partner to bring your vision to life. You'll get it the way you want it, soon, I'm sure.

  13. Sounds like a fun trip all in all Kris! Such neat places to see, and love that pink "studio"!!! How fun to get real cowboy boots. I just got me some after looking everywhere for some that fit right! As far as your wall, I do LOVE the wallpaper you already have up! You are so so lucky to have a hubby who will make all the changes you've done through the years, to reach your vision. I do like the embossed WP too, but do like a little color in the room, so that's why I like the flowered paper there now. Just my taste of course! My visions never really get achieved, as it's just me, and I'm not handy, so things just never get done. My home here of 1-1/2 years now, is exactly the same as when I moved in, though I did add a loveseat to the living room, so now it's more crowded! Sigh.... oh well.. we do what we can, when we're alone and really no one else to help. I 'would' like to paint my bathroom, but I know it'll probably never get done! Take care.. Marilyn

  17. Nashville sounded great. Awesome the girls were at Jason Aldean's bar. He's one of my favorites. We love Country too.

The embossed wallpaper is better for the look you are going for me and I can't wait to see.

I wanted this kind of look but John slammed the breaks. We can't afford a huge change like that. We have a beautiful home we built. I'm blessed. When we were building my MS didn't allow me to have strength to make those decisions.

You know what, I say that's life and we have a home i love and I make it work. We have hardwood in deep matte finish. Painted furniture is better suited because it stands out more. Besides I painted it all and it was hardwork..

    Have fun getting it finished

  18. It sounds like you all had a good time in Tennessee. It's on my bucket list to visit someday. I love the girls boots and they look so cute in them. I can't believe how big they are getting. Time goes by so fast! I do love that pretty wallpaper but you have to be happy with the look you want. It's great that you have an understanding husband and who helps you out with your renovations. I hope you accomplish that and can't wait to see how it comes out.
I hope you have a nice weekend Kris.

  19. I love Franklin. I like visiting Nashville, but I did not like living there. ;P
    I'm happy y'all had a nice time!
The inspiration photos are stunning. I know whatever you do in your living room will be so pretty.

  20. I, too, found Franklin to be more upscale clothing than unique items. Still, it and Nashville were fun to visit. As for the wallpaper, if it’s not you then it’s better to try the next thing. I think the paintable one will look cool - texture but in the color you want. Love the molding choices. And have the wood pieces will add lovely warm tones. Can’t wait to see it all finished!

  21. Hi Kris, I agree the floral wallpaper isn't "your style". I think the embossed paper will look better. Will you leave it plain like it is, or paint it?

I'm sorry that Franklin was a little disappointing for you, but sounds like you had a good time with your family. I bet the girls were thrilled to get their first pair of real cowgirl boots!
