Re Love of Vintage Door Frame

Years ago one of my favorite shops had this mirror in the shop.  I fell in love with that mirror.  Has that ever happened to you?  You see something and it just makes your heart beat a little faster and brings a smile to your heart and face!

I begged the owner to sell me the mirror.  Guess what she did.  Terry did have to do some adjustments to make it fit with 8 foot ceilings we had in the condo and it measuring to longer than 8 feet.  Also added some white paint but still kept is chippy.
I loved this mirror for a long time.

When we sold the condo I sold this mirror to another great shop owner and friend.  She was excited to have this mirror
from me.  It was hard to let it go but I just was not going to have a space for it in our new place. :(

Long story short the mirror lived in the shop owners house for awhile.  Then it fell and the mirror shattered.  The shop owner was going to get a new mirror made for it but decided to put it in the shop without the mirror and see if it would sell.
It did sell and went to a new home.  This person was going to frame a door with it.  When she got it home she could not get it to fit so she sold it back to the shop owner.
This mirror has had a  journey being owned by different people.
This weekend I was at my friend's shop.
When I saw this sweet salvage door frame back up for sale,  I looked at Terry and said I have the perfect vision for this salvage door frame.  I need to have this back in our home.   I had a vision to re love all the chippy salvage goodness of this vintage door frame.

I told Terry what my vision was for this door frame and he got his handy tools and started to make it happen.

I loved the bottom and top of this piece.  I was hoping Terry could incorporate them into my vision of what I wanted this to become.

This is how my dining room window looked a few days ago.  On this  salvage mirror piece I hung my wreath.  It was pretty but that window needed to be a focal point in my dining room.

This is what happened to that salvage door frame.  I had a vision for it to frame out the middle window in my dining room.   Which by the way the middle window does not open.  Only the side windows.

I knew since the middle window does not open my vision of framing it would work.

Here is the finished piece.  That Terry he is a keeper!  I have always loved how he could take my visions get his tools and make it happen.
Now the vintage door frame was going to frame out my dining room window and become a focal point.

It fit perfectly after Terry was done.  He added some white touch up paint to some of the places on the frame.
I still wanted it to look vintage and chippy.
Sorry about the picture quality shooting into the light makes it
difficult to get a good picture.

I took my wreath without the salvage piece and hung it in the new framed out window.
I love that this new piece fills in the window but I can still see the woods and wildlife out that window.  Light also streams in nicely.

It came out perfect.  The pictures do not do it justice.  I was having a dinner party with friends when I took this picture.  That is why my table is all set for dinner.

If you are wondering what I did with the salvage mirror the wreath was hanging on I will have that in my next post.

I cannot wait for spring.  I am so over winter.  I told Terry I need to live someplace I can wear my shorts and flip flops year round. I wish he could make that happen with his handy tools lol!

Have a great new week.
Old Man Winter is back for us in Illinois.
That little tease of spring we had last week was just that,  a tease.
It is amazing how we can go from 70 degrees in Illinois to 26 in a matter of a day.
Crazy!!
Hugs,
Kris

  1. Well that looks beautiful! The door has circulated and has returned. It was meant to be in your home and how lucky are you to find such a creative way to display it. Congratulations to both of you for imagining it and installing the frame.

  3. Oh my goodness! That is absolutely stunning! I love that you were able to buy that beautiful door back (what a journey it’s had!) and have Terry make it over in your vision for it. Talk about a statement! Yay for a man with tools and who knows how to use them. He’s a keeper even if those tools can’t fashion you warm weather, lol.

  6. Your window is beautiful now. Wow, this frame looks perfect!
Summer in Illinois is probably really nice though. Further south the heat is .... HOT.
Maybe you need a little place further south for the winter! So many of my new neighbors have a winter place.
    Have a fun new week.
