French Market Friday

Hi Everyone.

I took a break from taking care of my grandgirls, helping my mom out and doing things at the new house to have a "mental health" day with a good friend.

We hopped in my car and drove down to Tipton Indiana to the French Market they have there in the summer.  It took us about 2 hours to drive there and the time flew with all the catching up we did talking in the car.

Horton's is a hardware home and garden store like no other.  It is as cute as can be.  It has your typical hardware and garden things but it also has lots of crafty junk and special one of a kind pieces.

This is their sweet window display.  Lots of fun things in this home and garden store.

Loved the sweet vintage bike all decked out in the window of the store.

Fun beautiful pieces greet you as you enter in the store.

My heart was beating just a little faster when I saw this chippy vintage garden tub.  Oh I would have scooped that up quickly but it was not for sale.  :( Sigh....

Love the chippy sweet legs on this old tub and Don't you love the whimsy of that large fork!

Outside the store was the French Market .  Lots of cool venders.  Love this garden shed.  Horton's has lots of outdoor displays like this to sell their garden plants.  Just so fun to shop there for garden plants and flowers.

Don't you love the coffee tables made of round recycled wood and garden tubs.

Sweet vintage pieces in so many booths.

Lots and lots of vintage, lace, antiques and chippy's.  Something for everyone.

One of the vendors is Tinkerhouse Trading Company.  I just recently found her beautiful blog.  She creates the sweetest items and will be launching a store front on her blog very soon.
If you have not visited this lovely blog here is the link.  You will enjoy swooning through her posts.

Here are a few of the things in the Tinkerhouse booth.

Her displays are gorgeous.  Love her bedding.

This is how she tied off the curtains to the bed.  Lots of ribbon, cut out flowers and ferns.  Just was so pretty.
The highlight of the day was meeting up with Susie from She Junks.  Susie is as sweet as can be.    It was a lot of fun to meet Susie in person.  I am hoping I can coax her Chicago way someday so we can spend more time together.  She was shopping with her sweet daughter.

Hope you do not mind Susie I took the pic of us from your post.  Mine on my camera phone disappeared.  Not sure what happened there!!  I am sure it was the 90 degrees and humidity!  My pics must have melted away.

It was a fun day and a great market.

Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Kris

PS:  Garage permit was released today and the contractor is starting the garage next week. Yeah!!!!! The plumber is almost done in the basement so we are under construction finally!!!!!
Hopefully we will be moving in about a month if all the work goes as planned.
:)

Kitchen Table

Hi Everyone.

Hope your 4th was great and safe.  We had a great day just hanging out as a family with some bbq and swimming.  Low Key Day!  Loved it.

I was minding my own business one day in a Tuesday Morning store and came across this lovely little bistro table with lots of character.  It was a dark wood no worries I had some white paint and it spilled all over it!

I loved the chippy detail to this sweet little table for my VERY little cottage eating space!  Those parson chairs are bare right now.    I cannot wait to show you the new slipcovers I am having made for these chairs.  I think you will be surprised to see what fabrics I chose for these sweet chairs.  Hopefully those will be arriving soon to show you.
In the meantime the kitchen and eating area are coming together.  Counter tops are in and new sink is in.

The plumber working on the laundry room and bathroom in the basement needs to put a hole in this kitchen wall so I will wait to paint this wall.  I thought about the darker wallpaper for this wall but it was too much of a commitment!!! soooo I will just paint it when the plumber is done.

I think my chippy white decor from my last kitchen will be fun to incorporate into this kitchen.

Have a great rest of the week.
xoxo

Wallpaper

Hi Everyone.

Happy 4th!   We are plugging away on the new house.  We actually got the permit for the basement renovation on Friday so this week on Wednesday the plumber will be coming to begin the plumbing for the new bathroom and laundry room in the basement.
YEAH!!!!!
PROGRESS!!!!

So excited that the basement will be started this week.
:)

The garage build permit is still being held hostage! Sigh!

I wanted to show you some wallpaper samples.

Yep! I know you think wallpaper went out in the 90's but it is slowly coming back into decor again.

At least it will be coming back into my decor.

This house has a real cottage vibe and I want to add that into my decor.

Miss neutral will be adding some color to Junk Chic Cottage III!!!!

My new sectional was delivered for the living room this week.  The color is a light gray with white running through the material.  I looked for a long time to find a reclining sectional that looked cottage.  Most  reclining sectionals are big and bulky.  This one had simple lines and nice soft fabric.

After this was delivered the light gray walls and the white cornices and white sheers seemed to plain.

Too much neutral all in one space.

I thought the answer would be new drapes with a pattern and color instead of the white sheers.

I searched for a long time for the perfect drapes to add some texture and color to this room.  No luck with ready made curtains or even finding fabric to make curtains.

Soooooo.........

I could not sleep one night and at 3am I thought hey, maybe I can just find wallpaper to bring in some interest and color to this very neutral room!

Sometimes my best ideas come in the wee hours of the morning!!

Sample one has a pretty yellow background and light gray and white for the print.  It has a great cottage feel and would bring in some pretty yellow to my grays and whites in this room.

I think I could find some pretty throw pillows to add to the sectional to enhance this paper too.

Sample two is the darker gray with the pretty white and yellow flowers.  This is a bold statement paper and would really pop on the one wall.
The dark gray background and the yellow and white flowers would give some drama to the wall for sure.

You will have to wait to see which one I picked to put up on the one wall.

Is it the darker for a bold and dramatic feel or is it the yellow pattern for a cheerful cottage feel ?

There is still a lot to come in this room with the wallpaper choice on the one wall and then unpacking my chippy white decor pieces  and furniture pieces to add to this room.

I will add some pretty end tables that I rescued and painted.

I  look forward to  the day I can have the rooms all done and a final reveal of each room to show you.

It is fun to be adding some color while staying true to my neutral love and my chippy whites.

Stay with me.  I promise to have full reveals in the coming month.

Have a great rest of the week.

Easy Shiplap and Cornices

Hi Everyone.

Thought I would show you the cornices done and hung up in the new house along with some fun shiplap I found to fill in the ugly walls space we found behind the kitchen cabinets that were taken down.
Here is the cornices Terry made before we painted and hung them at the new house.

The cornices on the large window and the smaller window.

We just painted over the paintable wallpaper with white paint.  I like the vintage pattern to this paintable wallpaper instead of just a plain boxed wood.

This is the pattern to the curtains I hung under the cornices.  It is pretty but I am going to be adding color to these windows in the form of cottage type drapes.  I want a real cottage feel to this sweet house so I am on the hunt for cottage drapes to bring in some color with all my whites.

I found a box of this peel and stick "shiplap" at Lowes.  It looks and feels like wood planks.  This one is called sea washed.  Here is the link for the shiplap peel and stick.

When took down the kitchen cabinets to put open shelves we found years of different wall textures behind the cabinets.  So instead of trying to sand plaster walls to get it smooth enough for paint we thought a shiplap look would be a great choice.

I have to say this stuff is easy peasy to hang.  It is peel and stick.  Terry nailed it to the wall too.  These planks covered up the rough spots and looks really nice.  I will hang my vintage open shelves in this area.

We also hung it under the soffit.

I will be excited to get all my chippy cottage kitchen decor out of storage and start to decorate this kitchen when all the renovations are done.

We are still waiting on the new sink.  The old one was awesome but it had a hug crack in it and was leaking.  Ugh!  So to find a sink to fit this space we had to order it.  It was not a stock item.   We will put in the butcher block counters and stain and food seal those too.  I want to do something cute with that window over the sink too.

I hope to have a kitchen reveal soon.  There have been a lot of delays for us.
We also had to order the skinny cabinets that will fit around the moved refrigerator.  You know so we can actually open the refrigerator door without it hitting the wall!!!!
So when the cabinets and sink come in this week we can hopefully take care of making the moved refrigerator work better and start to put some finishing touches to this kitchen.

So stay with me.  I will have final reveals I promise.  All my decor is still packed away until we get the garage build done and can officially move in.
Patience is the name of the game and I am running on low with it all!  I will be so excited to get the news we can move forward and begin after the permits get released hopefully this week.

Seriously trying to stay positive and patient.

Have a great rest of this beautiful summer week.
Still really missing this sweet boy.  It is a little over a month since Cooper crossed over the rainbow bridge.  I miss him so much.

On a lighter and happier note.  This sweet little one is turning one year old tomorrow. Happy Birthday  Charlotte.  Can't believe it has been a whole year since this sweet angel arrived into our family.

We will be celebrating her birthday this coming weekend.  Charlotte loves Minnie Mouse so we are having a Minnie Mouse theme party.  Should be lots of fun.

Have a great rest of the week.
Hugs to all of you.

Happy Friday

Hi Everyone.
Just checking in to say Hi.  Have a few things to share.  Still no progress quite yet on the permits.  The City said possibly today or Monday for the basement permit and hopefully by next Wednesday the garage build permit.  Then we can hopefully get the contractor moving on these projects.

In the meantime Terry and I are still working on the kitchen and bathroom and hope to have that coming together soon.
My new flower boxes are filling in nicely.  The sweet potato vines are triple in size in just a few weeks.  The petunia's are loving all the sun and heat we have had.

So excited to see the impatiens doing so well.  A few years back we had a fungus that struck the impatiens in our state and I missed having them in the flower beds.  This big tree gives them the shade they need and they get late afternoon sun.   Hoping they will begin to mound in the next few weeks.

Next year I want to put more flowers in these beds under the window.  I have the hosta's and roses now but next year when I am living in the house I will plant more.  Would love to see more color out front.

I just love summer and my flowers.

This is a little project that Terry has been working on for me.  I wanted two cornice's to frame the top of the living room windows in the new house.

These were simple and inexpensive to make.  Some crown molding and 1x8's for the base.

A few cuts and a metal bracket to hold the pieces together.

We had some of the textured wallpaper left from when we covered the dishwasher on at the last house.  I am using that on the base of the cornice for texture and a vintage feel.
This is all the supplies you need.  We pasted the wallpaper on the base and let it dry.  The wallpaper is paintable which I love.

Tonight we will paint these white and hang them on the windows.  I will have an upcoming pic to show you how they look with some new drapes hanging underneath.

Have a great Friday and wonderful weekend.

Hugs,
Kris

Slow but some progress

Good Morning Everyone.  Happy New Week.

We are plugging along on the changes to the new JCC III.  Still waiting on permits for the garage build and basement remodel so I am trying to stay patient on that front.

Bureaucracy at it's best. Ughh!

Thought I would share a few pics of some of the changes beginning to the kitchen area.

Here are some before pics of the kitchen with the old counter tops and no appliances.

I liked the character of the tiles on the walls so we used epoxy paint to update those and they will stay.  The counter tops, dishwasher that did not work and cabinets around the windows came out.

Cabinets are down and counter tops gone.  The blue on the walls gone too.
New color for the walls in the kitchen is Behr Gentle Rain.  White with a hint of gray.
The floors are a big mess but I will show you soon what we will do with them to update and make them pretty again.
As you can see this kitchen is a very small kitchen area so we are expanding the kitchen into the existing dining room.
Appliances arrived!

After putting the appliance in place we found that the refrigerator door to the freezer cannot open all the way.  Ugh!!!!  So we had to put on our DIY hats and figure this problem out.

The solution is to take out the upper and lower cabinet next to the stove to be able to move over the refrigerator so the doors will open.  I will show you how that all worked when we finish up in this area.  Still a work in progress.

We found a great little backsplash idea.  We found these seawashed panels that are water proof so we attached them to the wall under the vintage white tiles.  We have butcher block counters going in too.

I wanted to save this vintage kitchen sink but after removing it to put in the counter tops we found it was cracked and leaking on the underside.  So we are ordering a new sink that should come in sometime this week.  Of course no surprise it is a special size that has to be special ordered!  Nothing in stock would fit!

This is a few of the many changes happening at the new place.  I am adding a pantry wall and coffee bar to the old dining room area to pull this room into being part of the new kitchen.  It will also give us much more storage since the original kitchen area is so small.

I know this post was pieces here and there but I hope to have a final reveal soon with all the changes done and in place.

It is taking time with my "handyman Terry" only available on the weekends now!  We have also had a few birthday parties and weddings in the mix over the weekends too.  So not a whole lot of time available.  I am happy so far with the changes and hope to finish the kitchen soon.

Then we can get the bathroom painted and put back together.  We are waiting on finishing up the bathroom because the contractor has a whole in the wall to hook the plumbing from that bathroom upstairs to the new to be bathroom down stairs.

Lots to still be done but it is coming along.

Have a great week.  Miss all of you and hope to have some reveals soon.

We are having a great time living with our daughter and son in law and grand girls but I still feel deep in my heart I need my own home again.  Hopefully soon.

Hugs,
Kris
