Summer Sunshine with Flowers and a Sad Good Bye

I have not gotten on the band wagon for fall decor just yet.  I want too but it has been too much like summer still here in Illinois.  When I look outside to the garden and my knock out roses are going crazy with blooms and it is 90 degrees it still feels too much like summer to me.
My hanging ivy geraniums love the heat and it being on the dry side.  They are coming around from all the rain in June and July.

The knock out roses I planted this year are well just a knock out!!!! I love these roses they bloom again and again and are very low maintenance.

I dead head the open flowers and within a few days another new bud will open up.  They are so hearty.

Even my faux birds in the garden look like the want to still hold on to summer.

Yep ivy geraniums love the heat and dry conditions of the last few weeks.  Their colors are so vibrant.

On a sad note.  We said good bye this week to a very sweet blogger that fought hard to battle cancer.

CeeKay Thinkin of Home Blog

Ceekay  loved  flowers especially roses so this post is dedicated to you sweet friend.  May you rest now in peace.  We will miss you.
Hugs,
Kris

  6. How sad about Ceekay. I didn't know her, but still. This week it seems to be turning into Fall in NE Wisconsin. It might reach a high of the 70's today. Our neighbor across the street has her yard all decorated for Fall. Good for her! Like you, I am not ready to let go of Summer.

  10. Your garden is lovely, Kris. Summer has a firm grip around here, too. It was 100 yesterday. No fall in sight. I am sorry to hear about your friend. I have read other posts about her and popped over to visit her blog. I would've liked to have met her. I am sending prayers...

  13. Your knock out roses are so beautiful!!!! We are still having hot weather so it certainly doesn't feel like fall around here yet. I'm sure it will soon enough though?!?! I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your sweet blogger friend!

  14. It's so sad about Ceekay. She was just a special person. Cancer seems to be hitting my family very hard right now. It's pretty bad when your brother in law and your mother have appointments the same day with the same doctor out of town. That happens Friday.
The roses are beautiful and she will smile when she sees them.

  16. So sad abut Ceekay. She fought a valiant battle. I hate that cancer takes so many people way too young. It has been way too hot here to think about fall yet, which is fine with me. I love holding on to summer. I think we are getting a touch of fall this coming up weekend though. Your flowers are all still beautiful. xo Laura

  17. I am so envious of your summer garden. With our drought, I just don't have blooms although my garden is green.

I am so sorry to hear about Ceekay.

  18. I was so sad to hear of her death! I remember following her blog. She was such a sweet person and as long as I've known her she was battling cancer. It's sad to know that she didn't win the battle. I would love to see that awful disease eradicated from this earth! Your flowers are beautiful. We are expecting cooler temps later this week but right now it is very hot and humid. We just got some rain so it feels steamy outside.

  21. I didn't know CeeKay but I do feel sorry for her passing away. And for the families loss.
Seems we have had the same weather this summer. Now it's finally sunny, but not so warm. It was frost this morning, brrr.
    Take care.

  22. Kris,
I did not have the honor of knowing CeeKay and I wish her family and loved ones peace and healing in their loss.
Your flowers look so happy, yup loving the sun and heat. I planted all "Barbie Pink" same color as yours (my grand used to call it that and it stuck in my Favorite memory color choices). My Barbie Pinks are New Guinea impatiens and Dahlias. The Dahlias really loved the heat of Summer and are still profusely growing big and bright. Your flowers look amazing Kris.
    xoxo,
    Vera

  24. I was so very sad to read CeeKay's blog on Monday! She will be missed! Love all of your beautiful roses. Everything in my yard is gone with the exception of the Vinca's. I'm hoping to do some fall planting now that the temps are cooling to low 100's. Have a blessed day! Cindy xoxo

Kris, I have knockout roses for the first time. I am not sure if they like more or less water! I've read not to deadhead and I'm wanting to do that. I'll follow what you do!!

  31. So sorry to hear about CeeKay. May she rest in peace, she fought a hard battle.
Your roses and flowers are stunning. We are having terrible heat here - in the 100's. I hardly go out only when I have to. Even the dogs run out, do their job and run back in. Now we are dealing with Hurricane Linda coming up from Mexico, so lots of humidity.
Enjoy your flowers, soon you will have snow.
    Have a great week.

  40. I am not only hanging onto summer but trying to pull it back. :) I don't consider it over until the calendar say so. I just can't put pumpkins on the front porch when the impatiens are still looking so beautiful. I just read about CeeKay. I knew her as a blogger long ago when they were just a few of us. Such a loss.

I'm with you about hanging on to summer as much as I can. Our summer here was off to a late start so want to enjoy it as long as possible before I plunge into Fall. Everything looks so pretty and lush in your garden.

  51. Sadly I knew Ceekay from years ago, when I was on Rate My Space and then through my last blog, but we never connected again when I came back. When Brenda told me, I had no idea she was even sick. May she rest in peace.

Beautiful post that you dedicated to her, Kris.
