Cottage Retreat

Hello Sweet Friends.

This past weekend Terry and I took a weekend trip and drove to our favorite areas in Southwestern Michigan.  Very cute towns along the lake.

This time we found a new and cute cottage to stay.
I thought I would share some of the pictures with you.

I loved this place it was decorated in my style so it felt like I was home.

The Front Porch of this Cottage Rental was decorated for Fall and Very Welcoming.

When you walk in there are two living room areas.  I did not realize when I took this picture the pumpkin pillow was upside down lol!

This is the other side of the living room as you enter into this cute cottage.  The sofa is a sleeper on this side.

This is the cute dining room and sitting area plus kitchen.  French doors off the kitchen go to the outside screened in porch.

This is the Master Bedroom.  Gotta love those vintage shutters flanking the window.

I just loved all her sweet touches in her decor.  That white chippy bench made me feel right at home.

There is a second bedroom with twin beds.

My daughters and I are planning a girls get away trip and I think this will work out great.

Here are my sweet little deer females that would stroll into the yard each morning to eat what little bit of greens are still left.  I could not capture them looking at me.  By the time I grabbed my phone to take their pictures they were off.

Here is the porch off the back of the house.  Every morning this is where my female deer friends could be seen.

A short walk from the cottage is the shores of Lake Michigan.  It was very chilly but a nice place to walk before dark wearing our heavy sweaters.

One of the places in this little town is the Blue Moon Vintage Market.
We stopped in and saw some pretty cool things.

I kind of was swooning over those shutters and that beautiful cabinet.

I am glad I got a picture of this fabulous Turkey because after I took this picture he was gone!  Someone bought him.  That guy was solid concrete.

See the white chippy bench.  That came home with me!!!!  Shocker I know!  White, Chippy and fabulous.  Had to have it.

In the little town of Three Oaks is a great distillery called Journey Mans.  You can see them making and storing their whiskey.  The food was all organic.
All ingredients in the recipes are from local farmers.
I had a great salad with a gin/vinaigrette dressing that was so delish.

Journey Mans also has a huge loft area you can rent out.  Many people have weddings here and then rent out the huge loft for family and friends to stay.
One of the kitchen areas of the lofts in this place.  There are 5 all together.  Each with huge kitchens, living areas and bedrooms and baths.

There is a beautiful porch off the back of the lofts.  Just a great place to have your special family gathering.  See those great chairs I found 4 just like those in a resale shop for $15 dollars each.  Wooo Hooo Score!

Then it was onto my favorite place.  The Found Cottage in Hudsonville.  About an hour drive north of where we were renting the cottage.

There were so many fun fall things in the shop.

So that is what I did this weekend.  It was a very cozy, sweater weather get away.
I cannot wait to plan a girls weekend with my two daughters and stay again in the cozy cottage.

Have a good start to the new week.
Hugs,
Kris

  5. Swoon. Double swoon. LOVE! I saw so many things in these photos that I've had my eye on during my hunts in town. First of all, I need an long oak or pine bench for my dining room table. THEN....that cottage. HELLO???? It's gorgeous and SO YOU (and me)....well my pal, you had a fabulous weekend. The beach, how amazing is that lake! Ruben and I have yet to discover the Great Lakes, and I think we must...

  7. LOL, Kris! It looks like you decorated that rental unit yourself. LOL What a fun place to have rented and that would be perfect for you and your girls to sneak away for a getawasy. I am assuming you would do it after the holidays.

LOVE those shops and I know they must be fun to wander through them. I am not surprised that chippy bench came home with you. Can't wait to see you work that into your space.

Have a great week,Kris. xo Diana

  12. Oh my goodness, that turkey! Wouldn't you love to see where he ended up?

I love the front porch of the cottage where you stayed, Kris! I know when you saw it that you knew the inside would be just as lovely but to walk in and find that it might have been decorated by someone who knew what you would like must have made you break out in a big smile. And it looks so roomy! That big screened porch could host a party. I'm not feeling very kindly today about the deer community as we discovered yesterday that they're killing their second red maple here, rubbing their antlers on the bark. We're ready to put up a cattle shocker to try and save it.

That's a wonderful white bench you bought! And it looks extra wide for a bench. I wonder which room it will go in? Journey Mans looks like a fabulous place, well worth a visit back when you girls hit the road. I like those chairs, are they a type of Hitchcock chair? Nice lines. I bet this weekend trip was so good for you and your husband, and you deserve it, as hard as you both work. Glad you're soaking up a beautiful fall along the lake!

    1. Hi Jean,
The Found Cottage is in Hudsonville, Michigan. It is right near Grand Rapids. There is a cute shop in Grand Rapids called Reinvented Treasures. In the town right down the road from The Found Cottage is a few more shops all in a row too. In the town we stayed there is a shop called Vintage Goods. Love love all of these shops. You can google all of these to get their websites and FB pages etc.
      Thanks for coming by.

  22. How fun! Loved those shops and the cozy cottage you stayed in! How neat to have places like that not too far from your home. Don't think we have anything like that around here, except for big fancy houses on the river... too modern for me! I love a little cottage to nestle down in, sit by the fire and enjoy the wood hues everywhere (and white of course)!!! Glad you had such a nice time and that will be such a darling place to have a getaway with your daughters! Start of a new week - have a good one! xoxoo Marilyn

  23. Ooh, Kris, I liked your weekend retreat! That place is so YOU (well, except it needs more white. Bet you wanted to get your paintbrush and white comforter out, didn't ya, admit it??). You & your girls will love that for a weekend getaway too.
Those shops - that turkey, your bench, that tartan pillow with pennant, 4 chairs like those for $15 each?? Wow. And I love that loft at Journey Mans too. I like so many styles, I'm all over the board. Makes it hard when I shop, too, because I like so many things! Glad your weekend was fun.

If you go on VRBO and put in Lakeside, Michigan it will bring up a lot more cottages too. Some are right on the lake. Lots to chose from. This one is a good one too.

  37. Oh my gosh what a wonderful trip you and Terry took. The cottage you stayed in was so freakin cute! I would have watched for the deers every morning too! I loved all the shops and there again you got to the chippy bench before I did! I'm going to have to pull Minnie up there and stay a few days and shop, shop and more shopping. P.S Check in time for the guest room is 3 PM! Loved to have you as a guest anytime!
