Random Acts Of Kindness And A Giveaway

Hello Sweet Friends.

I love to do Random Acts of Kindness through out the year but especially at the holidays.
I have always loved to give but to do a random act of kindness to loved ones and strangers gives me the best feeling.

Sometimes just smiling and saying good morning to someone in your journey that day can be the best kind of a random act of kindness.

As many of you know we began to adopt our last few fur babies through a rescue.
I feel the rescue dogs and kitties give us the best love.

I think a lot of you remember Cooper our Basset Hound that we adopted through Louie's Legacy Rescue.

He gave us so much love in his short life with us.  He changed us and rescued us at a time in our life's journey when we needed it most.

We gave love and shelter to him and he showed us back such love and purpose.

We adopted this sweet lug from Louie's Rescue out of Ohio.
They go into kill shelters and rescue as many animals as they can.

Louie's Legacy was started by one beautiful soul when she adopted her first rescue.

Emily saw in the Kill shelters so many sweet fur babies were being put to death.

Most very healthy and so many of them young animals.

It was heart breaking for her and she decided to start her own rescue named after her sweet basset hound Louie.
You can read her story here.

Please open your heart and to go to her FB Page
or the actual website here and see what great work they have done and donate if you can.

I love this rescue for giving us Cooper and changing our lives.

The next cute pictures are just a few of the dogs and kitties up for adoption.

If you live in the New York or Ohio or Connecticut area or near enough to take a drive please consider rescuing one of the many sweet pets up for adoption.

Here is the page with all the sweet fur babies up for Adoption.

Connecticut

We took Buddy to visit Santa and when Santa asked what Buddy would like for Christmas.

Buddy said  he would like all dogs like himself to be rescued and given a second chance in life.
I think a little chew toy and bone might be on his wish list too.

Thank you for indulging me the time to ask for you to think about Louie's rescue or other rescues near you at this time of year.

The shelters are packed with fur babies that need homes.

If you can donate to Louies you can go here.
XOXOXOXOXO

 Now on to the giveaway!!!!!!

This is my sweet little bird tree.  I love these birds and how they make me smile each morning.

Their cute little hats and scarves!

I love having these sweet little family birds in my special tree.

I would love for all of you to have a chance at adopting one of these sweet families for your own decor.
The beauty of these birds is they can be out for the holidays and long after through the winter months.
They will keep a smile on our face longer than just the holidays.

I've got the families all tied off in a gift bag and ready to fly to your home.

All you have to do is leave me a comment saying what kind of random acts of kindness you have done or like to do.

I love hearing all the sweet and uplifting ideas for random acts.
So leave your comment and if you are a no reply blogger then leave your email so I have a way to get in touch with you.
That's it just share a sweet or inspiring story of a random act you have done or are planning to make life just a little more special for someone.

I have a few families that need a sweet adoption and to thank you for your kindness.

I have added with each family a few Lindt truffles.
Gosh don't you just love those truffles and all the wonderful flavors.

Have a beautiful new week as Advent starts and the downhill slide into Christmas!

I love this time of year but it goes was too quickly.

Enjoy your decorating, shopping, baking and wrapping.

Make every day special during Advent.
Please give if you can to rescue agencies like Louie's and also remember each day to try and give kindness in some way to people in your paths.

Have a good week
Hugs,
Kris

  1. Thank you for your post and for sharing the information on the rescue center. I have five rescued dogs and three kitties. Our newest baby is seven weeks old now. I feed the mill kitties every morning when I go to work. One of the little mama's had one tiny three week old baby, I had seen her bring that baby out and she would play with it and hug it so sweetly. One Monday I arrived to find that little princes ((mama kitty) had been killed. My office is just down the street from the homeless shelter and a wonderful man staying there had seen this and buried her. When I told him she had one little three week old baby everyone one on the block came out to help look for that baby. Our Mill is a huge building and we knew she was under there somewhere. It took a few hours but one of our employees from the CAD department found her. She went home with me and I named her Pearl. We all work on Pearl St. and that was a morning when so many people from all walks of life and circumstances came together to save one precious baby. She is thriving and and so spoiled and so loved. There is so little hope and help for animals but there are also miracles. Thank you and Louies Legacy for all you do.

    Bright blessings,
    Constance

    1. Oh Constance thank you for sharing this story. This is what it is all about. How wonderful you could save little Pearl and so sweet you named her after the street. Glad she is thriving and doing so well because of your act of kindness and everyone joining in to help. Please give me your email so I can put you in the Giveaway drawing and can get ahold of you if you win one of the family of birds up for adoption lol! Hugs and thank you for being such a beautiful and kind animal lover. If we could all show the work and kindness you went through to save this sweet kitty. So said about the mom.

  2. Kris, your birdies are adorable. And I know firsthand since I have already been the lucky recipient of a red dressed family from the kindest lady I know. 🥰 So I will pass on entering the giveaway, but I love (and have stolen) your idea of tipping a server the entire amount of the check. It's completely unexpected and, as a former waitress, I know what a huge difference a tip like that can make in a day...especially around the holidays. Hugs to you my kind friend.

  3. Hi Kris....How gracious of you to post about all the fur babies that need homes. Love the pic of your sweet pup on Santa's lap! I will tell you about my husbands act of kindness he just did...he bought and delivered two complete Thanksgiving meals to families in need(through the Christian Motorcycle Association) he is involved in. He is a very giving man that puts others before himself constantly. I am not sharing this to enter your darling bird family give away....just to pass on that even our husbands have kind hearts, and deserve a shout out. Love to you, my friend. Debbie xo

  4. Hi Kris, adopting a dog from a shelter is just so awesome. We adopted our dog from a foster home for dogs and cats in Jersey City, NJ when Bosco was just 6 months old. He was returned twice! Our dog was so sick when we got him but we took him to the vet and they made him better and he turned out to be a great dog. I love doing random acts of kindness by holding doors open for people (it makes people smile). I also knit and crochet throughout the year for our church's annual holiday sale. I also helped out the older ladies in our group that might need to be picked up or driven home from our weekly meet up. I just love that awesome photo of Buddy and Santa! Happy December Kris!

  5. Kris, I love that you encourage others to adopt. We always adopt our pets and it always works out. It just breaks my heart that people will continue to purchase pets when there are so many needing homes. We do give each year to our local no kill shelter where our dog came from. We are so thankful to them for all they do. :)

  7. You are such a sweet and generous person, Kris. I love your bird tree and how wonderful that you have enough birdies to share with others! I also believe in supporting animal rescues both by adopting and financially when I can. I donate to two no-kill shelters here in McHenry County and I also bring them things like old, clean towels, fleece blankets, cans of cat food, and paper towels.

My last random act of kindness was actually today. A woman wanted to buy a vintage Marshall Fields tin that I had up for sale on FB Marketplace. I originally had it priced at $10, then marked it down to $8. She was supposed to meet me a few days ago in a neighboring town, but then wasn't able to. So she drove all the way out to my house today. Because she drove out here, I gave it to her for free. :-) And she stayed for about 15 min and we had a nice chat. Turns out she has a booth in a shop in N Aurora and she told me about cool places to shop in that area.

Thanks for the chance to win one of your beautiful birdies! xoxo

  8. Good morning dear Kris!!!!

I love that photo of Buddy with Santa Paws. That is TOO cute for words. Your generous heart is what I love about you...no matter what the season, you give everyone around you the chance to do the same, to be generous.I wish we could adopt a pet now, but with our busy work schedules, it's impossible to give a pet the time and love it deserves. One day, however, we hope to when one of us retires!

  9. Your heart is pure gold. Buddy thanked Santa, I'm sure. A few readers are about to receive a super cute flock of feathered friends. Merry December!

  10. What a wonderful cause. Those young animals end up in shelters because people aren't responsibly spaying and neutering their pets (yes, the males need to be fixed too) or they take a puppy home with no clue how much time a pet takes. Please do your part by getting your pet fixed so there aren't thousands of baby animals born and realize a pet needs lots of care and attention (obedience training is a good idea too as who wants an ill-behaved pet?). Ok, I'm off my soap box.
Love my bird families. They are so cute. I don't need to be in the drawing as I already have several of those sweet birds!

  11. Animals are so dear to my heart. What a wonderful rescue. I usually tip more at Christmas, but throughout the year I try to be there for friends and family if they need help with anything. This past weekend I helped my sister with her Christmas decorations. She has multiple health issues and it is hard for her to do it all.

  12. I would like to nominate my daughter Kerry. She is without a doubt the most charitable person I know. She carries "kindness" bundles in her car to hand out to people in need. If she sees police officers in a restaurant or carryout she anonymously pays for their meal. I could go on and on about her goodness. I am so immensely proud of her and the example she is setting for her own daughter.

I look forward to reading your blog and love your decorating style. We too have a rescue (Squirt) who we love dearly.

Regarding my daughter, she has been the greatest blessing in my life. She was born after ten years of marriage and being told that I would never be able to have children. She was the first grandchild on my side of the family and adored by everyone. At 16 she had a head-on collision with a dump truck, broke almost every bone in her body. She was helicoptered to the shock/trauma unit and the helicopter crew expected her to die en route. She survived and spent 6 weeks in the hospital, leaving in a wheelchair. While on crutches she helped care for her dying great grandmother, feeding and helping to diaper her. She has had 13 operations on her left leg, during the last one her femur was shattered. Soon after that I was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was at every doctor appointment and chemo session. She brought a cooler with fruit and snacks and made every chemo session a party. I was treated in Baltimore where there are a lot of homeless people. En route to and from the hospital she handed out her kindness bundles and money to the homeless. She is a tireless supporter of her daughter's many choir activities - decorating, selling tickets, etc. As you can see, I am just so very, very proud of her. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell you about her.
Holiday blessings to you and your family,
      Helen

  13. Hi Kris,

Such a story and heartbreaking and happy at the same time. Thanks for letting me know about this foundation and I will be visiting and donating.

John goes to a diner in town regularly. The waitress there takes in rescues. We give her toys, food and blankets to help her take care of the dogs. John doesn't let people see it.

He also buys a man breakfast when he comes in because at times he has little money.

John is a great man. He bought a man at a small place he goes to for breakfast in NYC breakfast the other day. John pays as he leaves. He doesn't want anyone to know.

    I'm so blessed.

  14. Merry Christmas, Chris! I love to perform acts of kindness and it is so easy to do. If I see someone who looks nice, I make a comment to them. The bright smiles I get are incredible. Or sometimes the person looks at me and sincerely says that they really needed that comment that day. I also love to take small tokens of appreciation, especially at this time of year, to my local library workers, to the woman in my clothing department at Dillard's who always greets me with a smile and hug so I love getting her a small gift and card to let her know how much she means to me. And how about the crossing guards at the schools - just a candy cane or small token just makes their day. But as you said, truthfully it is I who gets the reward by just feeling really good that I made a wee difference. I hope that you have a wonderful holiday in your beautiful home. You are definitely making it a Kris home!

  15. We currently have no pets in our home although we hope to adopt next year. We do feed the birds year round. The little finches are almost like pets. My husband and I enjoy cooking and we tend to cook for an army when we get in the kitchen. This always means lots of leftovers which we share with others. Two older men in our neighborhood are declining in health and we take them plates of food several times a week. A simple act of kindness that my honey did for a neighbor was place the star on the top of her Christmas tree. She was so thankful and I know he made her Christmas brighter. Love your blog and read it faithfully. Hugs, Marlee.

  17. My late husband and I adopted from our local animal rescue place, and have also taken in feral kitties, which have become tame and our family. I enjoy creating things and giving them to people for no particular reason. It is a thrill to see their joy.

These little bird families are adorable, whoever wins them will enjoy them.

  18. All it takes is for me to look into those sweet faces and tears run down my cheeks. Nothing upsets me more than animals being put to death because they weren't wanted. If I could I would have a rescue out in the country and take in as many as I could handle. I guess my act of kindness was to fix a plate on Thanksgiving and take it to my next door neighbor's grandson while she was out of town.

  19. I have had the pleasure of winning one of your acts of kindness giveaways. I shelter elderly rescue cats. I lost 2 this year. I have 10 at the moment, but that could change.
I do acts of kindness every day. I noticed this lady walking home from the grocery store. She was walking along the side of the road carrying groceries, so I offered her a ride. She lives in a small house with her husband, who is disabled. He can't walk and his health is bad. She is legally blind and can't drive. They are in their 60's. So, now I set up times with her so I pick her up and take her to the store. They are so nice and grateful.
But the story doesn't end there. Also on that same street is a single mother with an infant, and a 3 year old. I saw her walking with the baby on her shoulders and holding the hand of the 3 year old, while they both kept their hands on the cart they were pulling. I gave her a ride that day. So now I help her whenever she ask. I also have gotten several presents for her children for Christmas, since she has little money. I really don't know her situation, but she did thank me one day for not prying.
My husband always says that it was just meant for me to help others. But, I always wonder why others don't. He gave me the biggest compliment, when he told me I taught him the best feeling in the world, was helping others and seeing their smile.

This is what we need more of in this country to help each other out and to be kind and not hateful and violent. Thank you for sharing this with me. I will definitely put you in the drawing even if you have won before. You deserve this and so much more for your kindness shared.

  20. There are so many animals in need of homes and help. We have our own crew of two dogs and a cat. But there are a couple of neighborhood animals that don't get much care or attention that we feed and provide a warm place for. It doesn't take much and makes a huge difference in their lives.

I love your bird families....totally adorable!

    1. Nancy how sweet of you to take care of the dogs in your area too. What is wrong with people to take on pets and then not take care of them. Breaks my heart to hear of people doing this.
I am glad you are their guardian angel to look after them. Kiss your sweet fur babies for me.
      Good Luck.

  21. I like to do my random acts of kindness anonymously. Our church collects food for the food bank and also to provide food for children over the weekends who only get most meals during school. I prefer to take my donations to donate when no one is at the church to witness (have a key to the church), only God. We collect new shoes for kids in need and provide the same way. I need no pats on the back, only the joy my heart feels.

  22. I like to watch the parking lot when I grocery shop for an elderly or disabled person and ask if I can have their grocery cart when they are done loading their car; that way they don't have to find a cart area to take their cart to, which is often a bit of a walk.I
I also help at the check out area if someone is having an item taken off because they don't have enough money. I let them put it on my bill.
As a nurse I generally try to help as much as I can even off duty.

  23. You are just the sweetest person, Kris, and I wish you lived closer to me!!! I have to share this post with my daughter as she is still searching every day for a sweet rescue angel like my Molly - random acts of kindness? Sometimes it's as easy as a compliment and a warm smile that can change someone's outlook on the day! I do often share my baked/homemade/pickled goods throughout the holiday season as well as all year long...it doesn't cost much but folks (hopefully!) know how much work goes into each batch!

  25. Kris,
I love that you share about the importance of adopting and rescuing. All our cats have been rescues. Penelope is our little girl who has been with us for 2 years now. She was just a little thing left on the side of the road. A co worker found her. Well, I saw her and my heart melted. She is now our sweet little cat for 2 years.

I recently sent some cards out to some of our volunteers at Daybreak. We would not be able to have Daybreak without our volunteers.

  26. Kris, you are such a special lady and I appreciate you and your friendship throughout the year. We keep an eye out for people asking for money around the hamburger joints we frequent. When we see someone we will not give them money but go into the place and buy them a dinner. I have talked to people who say dont' do it, but how can you pass them up knowing that they must be hungry no matter what their life style. Buddy looks so cute with Santa. Thanks for your sweet visit and sweeter words. I am so far behind but am so proud of myself that I am not getting stressed but just enjoying the process..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy

  27. Kris, you are a special, generous and kind lady. I look forward to reading your posts and seeing your pics of your sweet cottage. I adopted my white fluffy dog from the pound when her elderly owner could no longer care for her. That was 7 years ago and she has brought me nothing but joy. I try to be kind every day to everyone. My poor neighbour lives on his own and has cancer. I have offered to do his shopping and take him to his appointments. I love your sweet birds!

  29. I try to always be kind and am especially drawn towards others' needs this time of year. I often donate to animal rescues and will add Louies to my list! We take supplies to our local Humane Society as well. I enjoy taking care of people too and for several years now, have selected someone online or in person who needed help and done what I could for them, such as bought them food or gift cards. One very simple act really stuck with me. The parking lot at the grocery store was packed! I noticed an older woman following me through the aisle, obviously in search of a space. When I spotted one,it was a "pull thru", two spaces front to back. I started to pull in and motioned her to follow me. I took the front spot, allowing her to park behind me. She was so thrilled and thanked me over and over again! I get so much joy out of helping people and making them happy! It doesn't take much to brighten another person's day!

  30. One of our thrift centers runs a 50% off coupon special several times a year. I often receive more than one coupon and while I am looking if I see a woman with a basket full of goodies or a gaggle of kids, I will ask her if she has the coupon and if she doesn't I'll give her one. I had one lady just hug me and jug me and then I had a man to thank me but no he had one and from then on he would bring his extra coupons to share. For me the shopping is just an outing to stretch my legs, for some families it is the difference between what the family will have to wear or play with.

  31. Hi Kris - I am a little late in commenting, but I wouldn't want to be entered into the draw because of living in the UK, postage being what it is! I always speak to strangers when out and about, especially older people. Quite often I spend some time just talking to them, and on many occasion I have been told that I am the first person that they have spoken to that day, and in some cases for several days. It's so lovely to leave these people with a smile on their faces. Today we were in a coffee shop and I happened to notice a lady nearby who had decided to move to a quieter table, after the previous occupants had left. When she had completed the transfer of the dirty crockery that the previous occupants had used, and transferred her food, drink and belongings to this other table, and then sat down, I happened to notice that she had left her handbag on the floor by the other table. I went over and told her and she was so grateful that she must have thanked me five times! It's all about showing kindness to strangers in these very troubled times, world over. Hugs, Gilly

  33. I am so glad that you support this wonderful cause, Kris. I know that is where your heart lies. The sad thing is that the pets can't speak for themselves. They are at the mercy of the humans around them. What a nice giveaway to offer.

We adopted the women's shelter this year-for women that have left their abusive relationship, with their children in tow, and live in a place called The Freedom House until they can be trained and out on their own to support their kids.

  34. Kris, thank you for going above and beyond to help the shelter dogs. Bless you! I'm too late to share in this telling of kind acts, but I do want to put down on here a supremely kind act I received exactly one week ago.

My husband was in the hospital from wed before thanksgiving with so much going wrong. I know you are familiar with our story so just will say the doctor decided to allow him to go home on Hospice on Saturday afternoon to be where he was loved.

We were lead to believe we would be able to have our long-planned for Christmas with our daughters and their families. Last Monday, exactly 7 days ago, the hospice nurse assigned to us came on duty at our house. She spent 10 minutes assessing the situation and motioned we go down the hall to talk. She asked if she could talk "straight" and I said "Please Do!"

She said from her experience we had only hours to say our goodbyes and that family who planned to come should do so as fast as they could. She even let me make a short video on Marco Polo of her explaining the signs that indicated we had so little time.

I sent it to our 3 daughters, and they booked flights out that morning and arrived that evening. They were there with me as midnight passed and Tuesday morning dawned and our family's sweet "Grampy" passed from this life.

The nurse gave me a true act of kindness when she was honest and forthright about our situation. No one else was willing to do so! Had she not told us what she knew in her heart to be true, our girls would not have been there to say goodbye and I would have been completely alone to face the loss of my sweetheart as he slipped away.

  35. What a wonderful post and a great way to get the word out about those precious fur babies. All of God's creatures are precious and deserve a good life! Thank you for this reminder about random acts of kindness...we all get way too busy living our day to day lives and it is easy to let that become our focus. Love that pic of sweet Buddy with Santa...my doxies would never pose that well...LOL!
