Advent Calendar

Hello Sweet blogging friends.  Hope your Halloween was nice.  For the first time in a long time the weather was mild and sunny for the trick or treaters.  Unfortunately we did not have a lot of kiddo's probably due to Covid fears.

My daughter Jen and her two girls dressed for Halloween.  Charlotte was Elsa from Frozen and Abby well..... she was a character from a teenage horror movie.  Oh I hate when they get older and do not want to be sweet little princess's anymore!!!!

Here they are with Terry all masked up.  Masks were a big part of the costumes this year.

I bought these advent calendars on clearance for $10.  They are large books with with 24 pockets inside with small Christmas story books.

Each pocket held a small story book.  I emptied those books out which I am going to use to make up treat bags for my granddaughter Charlotte's Pre K class for the holidays.

I used wrapping paper to cover the book's outer area.  Then I found these cute Santa bows at Hobby Lobby and glued them on the cover of the book.

Inside I put lottery scratch off tickets, gift cards and money for each day in advent.  My adult kids enjoy these advent calendars. With Covid numbers so high and the holiday get togethers not looking so great I am glad I could make these up for my kids and grand girls.
Do you do traditions like an Advent Calendar in your family?  My grandgirls will get My Little Pony Advent and a Make up Advent Calendar.

Have a great week.
Hard to believe it is already November and Thanksgiving and Christmas are just a short time away.

  2. Dearest friend, good morning!

WHAT FUN! I can't help but notice, did you get a new phone/camera? That first photo especially is GORGEOUS with the little one in her blue gown and the white tent in the background! Looks like it was fun just simply being with your loved ones!

It's wild around here; this morning we go to the hospital. I will be waiting on pins and needles today for my beloved one.

    HUGS to you!

  3. I need to get that advent calendar for my grandkids. Both love books and I see some Paw Patrol in the mix, their favorite! Great idea though to turn them into adult advent calendars with those nice big pockets. Love that Santa bow! Your kids and grands are so lucky to get your amazing advent calendars every year!

  4. I like the idea of giving the grand kids Advent calendars. I remember loving them when I was little. Everyone looks so cute dressed up for Halloween and sounds like you had a good time.

  5. Oh I have been wanting to get an advent calendar and just keep forgetting about it! I need a BRAIN cause lately it seems fried. LOL! Such adorable pictures. We live out in the country so no trick or treaters. Years and years ago when my girls were small all the cousin kids would take turns going to our homes but that changed over the years. This year I only know of one church that had something for the kids in our county. COVID! Hoping your day is good dear lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  6. That is so cute, Kris. Your girls are so lucky to have you for a grandma. The kids will love these. I sure do miss having little kids around for all of the fun stuff. Halloween costumes look great and I know what you mean about missing the little princesses. I had a little girl once too! We didn't do trick or treating this year, but looking out the windows, I didn't see very many kids out either. Stay well..xxoJudy

  7. Hi,
I love the idea Kris, I do advent calendars for the boys. I think I will change it up this year and do your idea. I usually do a chocolate/candy advent. When they were younger I did Lego advents.
Thank you for the great idea!!

  9. "Elsa" is so cute there! But older school age children wouldn't dare be caught in a princess outfit I guess. I do love the pic with the little sister's tiara borrowed for her own head! Your Advent calendars should be a big hit! I used to buy the calendars each year but somehow skipped last year and might not get to it this year. And my granddaughter's mother is so great at refilling pockets on their main one.

  10. Kris, that is such a cool idea, for both the adult girls and grands. I should do that for my girls. Every year you do something different from the year before. Love it! Charlotte looks so pretty and Abby....well, I guess they have to grow up sometime, right? As long as she still loves to be around you, it's all good. My sister who's been helping with her grandgirl since she was age 1 is having a bit of sadness this year for 2 reasons - COVID distancing being the biggest that physically keeps them apart, and the fact that she's 13 and doesn't share her secrets like she used to. Glad your girls got to have fun collecting candy.

  11. I love the advent calendar. One of our traditions was one my Mom did when I was little. I continue it to this day. It may be a little sad, but to my Mother it was a good memory. My Mother came from a poor family with lots of kids. They never got any christmas gifts. One year my grandparents had to put 5 of the kids in an orphanage for a few months, this was during the depression. The orphanage give each of the kids a bag with fruit, nuts, and candy. My Mom was over joyed to receive it and every christmas she would give me a bag with the same things and also 3 christmas gifts. I have done the same things with my kids and grandkids.

  12. That Advent book is so cute! Last year, I found cute knit mini stockings at Big Lots. I bought each grand kid a different design and strung them on long pieces of jute. Each one had something inside - candy, gum, money, a trinket, toiletries, etc. It was a fun daily surprise! We'll use them again this year. It'll be here before we know it! Yikes! Hugs!

  13. I love the costumes and all your fancy masks! They were a part of the holiday around here, too. We put out a box of candy for the few trick or treaters that came around. People were very creative this year, taping Kit Kat's to fence pickets and adding candy to clotheslines. My kids are older so we didn't go out, but it was fun to watch the littles from window. Love the calendar. What a great idea and a super way to get a lot of gifts out of one or two purchases!! You are so crafty!

  15. Very cute Kris, I remember trying to score 24 Christmas books for our grand, by the time I found all of them, she was too old. This is a great idea, and I'm still doing the Grand's with projects. Many that I will make myself for her to do. She has outgrown the store ones, so it will be a 'homemade' Christmas ideas this year!!!

  17. Great Halloween pics Kris! I agree that it's quite sad as the girls get older, and no longer want to wear very pretty dresses. Ah! Advent calendars! Love what you have done with those books, such a great idea! Glad to hear that your weather was kind. Hugs, Gilly x

  20. I need to blog again, I’ve missed out on so much of your creativity here. I get this whole thing with teens and not wanting to be something sweet.
Here is Southern Calif, it was illegal to trick or treat, se we had knowone at the door. This covid is awful, and it seems it’s truly becoming our normal.
    Hugs 🙏🏼
