Christmas Fireplace Mantel and Random Acts of Kindness

Hello sweet friends.

Do you do Random Acts of Kindness.  Maybe pay for the person's order behind you in the drive through line, do things for neighbors and friends when they do not expect it.  Do you give to your favorite charities throughout the year and especially at the holidays.

I have always been one to do random acts of kindness whenever possible.  It gives me such joy to help others especially those in need.

Sometimes it is just a kind word or a small deed or larger help that is needed to make someone's day.  I love to do things when someone least expects it.

I have a friend that is truly an angel in God's care here on earth.  She has a kind and caring heart like no one I know.  She asked me if I would like to help out on one of her many acts of kindness that she does through her church community.

We have a county PADS organization that helps those in need.  It is a christian service and one of the areas they concentrate on is their Women's shelter.

This year they are doing beautiful purses with all kinds of things put into the purses that women in the shelters might need.  Things like soap, socks, womens products, protein bars and gift cards.  Then these purses are gifted to each of the women in the shelter.

Here are the three purses I did with my daughters Jen and Kim.

Gotta love Kohl's on a black friday deal.  These leather bags were on a special black friday price and I then had a coupon and that brought these beautiful leather bags down to about $10 dollars each.  Not bad for a leather purse right!?

We then got some things at Target.  I could have gone to the dollar store but Target had a lot of things for around a dollar.  They wanted them packed with things the women in the shelter would want and need.  One of things I found at Target that I just loved was a "women on the go kit".  It had a razer, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, tooth paste, toothbrush, etc.  Score all things they need in one sweet package.  All these things were down in a cute makeup type bag.  The best part was that these were on sale for $8 and it was buy one get one 50% off.  Score again.  I could not do that good at the dollar store on these items.

After I loaded each bag down with all the things I bought I tied them off in clear cello bags and ribbon.

I have been in such a funk with all the Covid stuff that I have felt down and not motivated.  This little project today made me feel some joy and motivation to do something nice for those women in need.  Can you imagine being in a shelter during Covid and during the holidays.  I was so happy to make up these bags for some deserving women in need.
I found these cute tote gift bags with the Psalm 46:10 that I love.
I hope they will love these beautiful purses and it will make these women feel loved and special.

I gifted my mom this Santo's angel years ago.  She loved it so much and had it in her home for years.  She told me before she died that she wanted to make sure I would keep it and treasure her.  I said I certainly would.  She had a dark green dress and rusty wings.  That was not the look I thought she should have in my house.  Sweet Terry painted her dress and wings white for me to make her more my style.  She never had a crown so I am on the hunt for a special crown for her.  For now she has this white metal one.  I feel she needs something much more special for her crown.  So the hunt is on!

Here is my mantel all done up for Christmas.

I wanted my signature white with some greens and of course candles.  I love all the candles lite especially at night.

There you have it.  My Christmas mantel.  Of course I am tweaking and moving things constantly lol!  For now I am liking this look.  Happy Decorating.  I am hoping to get motivated to start some baking this week.  I will have my tree to show you next.
Hugs,
Kris

  3. I do RAK all year round. I love the purses filled with needed items for the ladies at the shelter. A friend of mine did that last year for a women's shelter in Lake Co and I joined in on that. Fun to do and gives you a boost in spirit knowing you helped someone in need.

How sweet that your mom's angel is now in your living room right by your fireplace. She looks right at home there.

  4. Hi Kris,
I always love your random acts of kindness ideas.
We gifted our ladies at our bank some coffee gift cards the week of Thanksgiving. They have been so helpful during this pandemic. With Sam being deployed they helped me with his account.

I love your mom's angel. She looks perfect by the fireplace.
    Lots of love to you,
    Carla

Your Santos angel that has come back to you from your dearly departed Mom....oh isn't she a beauty? I actually love the crown she's wearing - it's kinda perfect, actually.

Love random acts of kindness. And the one doing the act is the one who is getting the true "gift."

Bless you this Advent Season and always. Stay well, dear lady. Hugs.

  12. Kris, YOU are an angel here on earth. You really are. What a kind and thoughtful gesture on yours and your girls' part. Your mom's angel at your home is beautiful. That mantel looks so pretty, especially with the candles lit. Terry did a good job. Her crown is pretty as is, but if you want something else, even a pretty napkin ring might be just the thing you're looking for.

  20. How did I miss THIS????????

First of all, I think you "got it." The way we survive this mess we are trudging through is to stay active, active in connecting with others by service. This is where the true joy comes from, isn't it my friend? Your finds are amazing. Totally accessible to you so that it's possible that you reach a few more women. Your styling skills go beyond the home; you made each bag so special so that each woman feels like a queen. Then there is your mantle...what can I say but that it's perfection. I can't wait to see what crown you come up with for your angel!

  23. Your angel is beautiful and your gifts to those in need are even more so! Random acts of kindness are so important. Even little things - leaving the grocery store that I drive several miles out of my to shop at because they are very good about cleaning carts, belts, and reminding people to wear masks - as I was returning my cart I mentioned to the attendant and her special needs assistant who were wiping down the carts that I was very thankful for them...I appreciate the work they do to keep me safe and I feel that they are essential workers. The young woman teared up, put her hand on her heart and said "thank you...most people just yell at me." You never know when your kind works will make a difference!

Live the fireplace and the Santos you brought back that was your moms. The candles must be magical in the evening.

  31. Love your act of kindness story, since covid I rarely leave my house, there is no random acts of kindness out and about when you are always home... I have a very large rose garden, its obviously wanning in the colder weather, but I told my husband yesterday I wanted to cut all my roses and drop them off at the hospital for the nurses, he scared me, he said there isn't enough to go around, how would they decide, that made me feel uncomfortable, so still mulling that idea over...

your all white is lovely, I love monochromatic, I do silver for the holidays, the glint of light always catches my eye when I pass by.

  34. What a wonderful idea and your presentation is so beautiful! I experienced the receiving end of an act of kindness this past weekend when the person ahead of me at the drive through paid for my meal. So unexpected and sweet! Hope you and your family are doing well in spite of this covid situation. So hard on everyone and lingering for so long it's making us all crazy. May 2021 be a much happier and fulfilling year. Have a wonderful weekend Kris! xoxoxox
