Armoire Re Love

Hello Sweet Blog Friends.

I want to show you what we did with that big armoire to make it fit in this tiny house.
This is the armoire I got for free on FB Marketplace.  I did not like the design of the grapes and leaves so I knew that pattern would be gone with the re love of this piece.

It had been used as a computer station.  I wanted it for a TV armoire but it was way too big and deep for our small living room.  Soooo.......

Terry took his handy dandy tools and cut this piece down so it would frame out the TV.  It is now much thinner and fits in the space better.  It does not stick out into the room.  It was 20 inches deep and is now only 5 inches.  It basically frames out the wall TV.

Here it is with the doors open.  As you can see it just frames out the TV on the wall.  Terry built a shelf on the bottom for the sound bar to sit and under the shelf our cable box.  I like that it is hidden.  My design assistant is sleeping on the job I see.  This guy is so funny he can fall asleep sitting up when he is really tired.

He is the neighborhood watch so this keeps him very busy during the day and this is why he needs frequent naps!  It is rough being in charge of the going ons in the neighborhood.

I bought two sets of handles at Hobby Lobby.  One was a big plain white handle and the other one was the smaller chippy design handle.

I like the chippy one added to the larger one to make a unique handle.

We put up new molding where the grapes and leaf pattern was in the original design.

Here is a side view of the crown and trim being cut down to 5 inches.

This is how the old TV cabinet and fireplace surround looked before we got the new armoire to re love.
Now the surround and sconces are moved to the other side of the room and under my mirror.  I sold the old TV cabinet.  I like the look of the fireplace surround under my mirror.

So there she is.  Big ole armoire made into a new cabinet to hide the TV.
Living small you have to be creative in figuring out how to make things work in your small space.
I hope any day now to get a call that my slipcovers are ready for this chair and one other that the guy has in his shop.
I will show you those when they are ready.
I love the brightness of this room.  I am on the hunt for a neat sign or something for above the armoire on this wall.
Have a good Friday today and a great weekend.
xoxo
Kris

  3. Amazing transformation to fit your house perfectly. Love how it hides the tv and the cable box. I hate seeing wiring. The other side of the room looks lovely with the mirror above the fireplace. Kudos to you both for re-loving this piece. Such a great design team. Xo

And you were able to keep your fireplace surround!!! So that's on the other wall....I would love it if you could get a photo of the entire room?Is that possible?

  14. Fantastic Kris! I just knew that you and Terry would work your magic on that huge piece. It looks perfect and it's great that it hides all of those things, whilst they are not in use. Your fireplace looks perfect under that beautiful mirror. Did I miss a post about when you moved the oblong table and 4 chairs out of the window bay? Hugs, Gilly x

  17. What a brilliant makeover! So many of us have those chunky TV and computer cabinets of old. Our TV is above our mantel, and there is literally no where else to put it in our family room. Our house is all open, and we have tons of windows which leaves little wall space.

Y'all did a great job. Your living room is so cute!

Terry is such a gem to reconfigure that huge hutch! As someone else said "we all need a Terry"!!!!! And of course, YOU are amazing too in your visions and all the painting you do. I can't/won't even attempt to paint a small side table. I certainly have "Kris and Terry envy"........... have a great weekend! Marilyn

  21. Oh, Kris. This turned out just to be perfect all the way around. Your decor mind must be gathering info all the time. You really have so many good ideas. The cabinet looks just like it was made for there and the fire place under the mirror is wonderful. It looks like it is a perfect scale for the wall with all of the added accessories. Did you take your table and chairs out? Will you ever show a pic of the whole room at once. I get mixed up where everything is..Stay well..xxoJudy
